My unit saw the 5.56 WASR-10 I bought and installed a USGI birdcage flash hiuder on. They want to buy 10 just like it for use for OPFOR weapons. Here are the requirements:

1) Look like a traditional AK-47 at arms length to anyone but an expert.
2) Be chambered for 5.56x45
3) Be capable of being modified to accept a USGI birdcage flash hider or it's equivilent.
4) Cost under $500 each including magazines after all fees, modifications, and shipping.

Apparently, our TO&E doesn't allow our unit to buy 7.62x39 blanks so the only way to have AKs for training is if they take 5.56 blanks which we already have in our system.

I still have the die and TAT that I used on mine and they'll just have me thread the them to 1/2-28 threads to take a birdcage FH so that a regular Blank Firing Adapter can be used.

I think the work to modify a Saiga would be more than they'd want me to do, plus cost more than they want. I told them they should be about $400 each.

Does anyone know of any wholesalers who have them in stock?

Since this sounds like a US Govt/military purchase I would think that going straight to the importer/manufacturer would be best - that being most likely Century or KVAR, or possibly some of the smaller shops that import and do 922r compliance stuff (although 922r doesn't apply to a government purchase).

Government bid pricing is a different ballgame than civilian single sales, and excise tax won't apply, so there may be nicer options within the budget than you could find on the civilian market.

If you want to contact retail dealers/distributors anyway, I would start with AIM Surplus, Atlantic Firearms, KVAR (again), and perhaps the others listed above.

they're trying to do this with discretionary funds instead of a designated bufget item since they aren't listed on the TO&E.
