I am looking around for some 7.62x54R and im having trouble finding it i usualy shopw at cheaper than dirt but they are out of all there 7.62x54R any other suggestions when i can get a good deal on it.

AIM is advertising 800rd sealed cases of Czech 7.62x54R (light ball) for $59.99 a case. You can't get much cheaper than that...

Try checking at aimsurplus.com (I tried to load the url and couldn't get it to work. Sorry.)

Just be aware that the czech ammo is steel core and that some ranges don't want you shooting it. Other than that it is accurate good shooting ammo. Mark

I've bought lots from www.outdoormarksman.com and have been very satisfied. They have commercial non corrosive 7.62x54R at reasonable prices. I have tons of military stuff, but for just shooting a couple of boxes, I prefer the non corrosive stuff that requires no extensive immediate cleaning. they're base in Oregon so shipping should be reasonable.

"i checked AIM out but no shipping to cali"

No, that's not right. I have bought some of the 60 buck ammo and a rifle to shoot it in. AIM was pleased to ship everything right to my door...with a C&R.

This is an odd question that I've never been able to find the answer to:

Is there a retailer anywhere that stocks all (or at least a good selection) of the various kinds of surplus ammo? I recently got one of the refurb'd M44 Mosins, and from what I hear, they can be picky sometimes.

The transfer FFL had no 7.62x54R in stock, so I'm still empty for this rifle. *Shock! Awe! Gasp!*

What I'd like to do, though, is get 40 or 60 rounds of each kind, (Alby, Czech, light, heavy, whatever) and do a good comparison test, so I could find out what it shoots best. All I ever see, though, is ammo sold in the full tin.

Lemme tell ya... The store that lets me buy a small amount of each to test out (and the same in 7.62x51, BTW) will get ALL of my bulk orders in the future...

The Ammunition Store has a nice selection of 7.62x54R. Right now they have Czech, Yugo, and Hungarian milsurp listed plus several modern brands (generally Eastern European).

Their shipping rates can be a bit high, depending on where you live, but they offer excellent service. I have ordered "ammo smorgasbords" from them before to try out various brands.

sorry AIM doesnt ship to Los Angeles

SpookyPistolero, consider any of the surplus ammo corrosive. Just clean your rifle after shooting it. I spray windex down the bore(or hot water), swab it out good then reoil it. I haven't had any problems with pitting or rust. Mark

Too bad you don't have a Dumhams sporting goods store. On Sunday, PMP, a South African ammo, boxer primed, reloadable case, in soft points, $5.95/box of 20...in 243,308,30-06,303 british. They also have some 7.62x54, and other surplus ammo at cheap prices.
I would have stocked up more, but I can reload cheaper than that, that's something you should be thinking about. Lee makes dies for your Russian round, and Remington and Winchester makes cases. A nice single stage press, a powder measure, some case lube, a lee hand primer tool, and some powder and primers, and you might never run out of ammo...
