I could use some help from THR members familiar with the Vegas area. I'm visiting some family in Las Vegas and we want to do some shooting, but aren't sure where we can go. Looking at Google maps, from their house it seems like it would be most convenient to head north on 95 to get out of town, but I'm open to any ideas.

We'll probably just be throwing some clays and may do some handgun shooting, so we don't need a spot with really long ranges.

Thanks!

This is odd, as I live in Pa, but I recently purchased a firearm out of Las Vegas. The store/range(I believe it is also a range) was called the Tactical Armory. The store is owned/operated by Wes Lahuillier, who also teaches at Front Sight.

You can check the local BLM stats site,it shows places/maps where you can go.I always go to the dry lake beds near Nelson,NV.because its not so populated, set back away from much of everything but I would suggest a 4x4 if you go that route.

I know you prob want to shoot ur own stuff, but if u wanna rent a full auto MG goto "the gun store" on tropicana. Awesome!!

Head north on 95 to Milepost 103, turn right down into what looks like a series of small canyons; very popular. On google maps it appears as very light colored sandy area.

Hockea, you just made public our own private secret. Now everybody knows.

Right on, hockea.

For visitors: There is a no-shoot zone surrounding the urban center of Clark County. http://gisgate.co.clark.nv.us/gisplot_pdfs/cp/illegalfirearms.pdf
It all looks like desert, but be careful. Make SURE you are outside the non-shooting zone. Also pay attention to the Desert National Wildlife Refuge north of town, the Red Rock National Conservation Area west of town, and Nellis Air Force Base. Those are also no-shoot zones within the Las Vegas Valley.
The Bureau of Land Management is also enforcing no-vehicle rules in many desert areas in response to EPA dust regulations.

I have a pretty important suggestion for those whom visit the area east & near mile marker 103 and 95 (Or Anywhere else for that matter); police the area, whether its your mess or not, I went out this am; Sunday October 11th, 2009 and it was a disgrace! I spent two hours filling the back of my full-size truck with empty shotgun cases, ammo packaging, bullet riddled tv's, computers, appliances, and other non-biodegradable items clearly left by shooters...

I thought I was at the city dump...

This is the kind of ammo the Green Peace, Sierra Club and other so-called GREEN INITIATIVE supporters are using to barricade, fence and otherwise ban future access to these type of locations...

Thank you, buddy. We need to take care of our own places, or we'll lose them.

That Clark County map of firearm closure area is no good. Even though it is stated on their web sites, it really depends on what ever LEO is checking you out. My buddy was SW a good mile from the last paved road, aiming out into the mountains shooting 300-500 m and a LEO came out when someone reporting gunshots in the area and luckily didn't fine him but made it clear he wasn't allowed to shoot. Even though he was in "legal" areas of the map and well over 1000 m from a building or city structure, the LEO gave him alot of flack about "reckless" shooting. He called the county office (not exactly sure what it's called) but they just had him on hold for 20 min after he stated his initial inquiry.
