Where is Calguns.net? Anybody access?

I think DOJ pulled the plug.

They may have pulled a no knock warrant on the subversive servers and accidentally kicked over the computer.

Wandering aimlessly.

Whoa, and a day after Moonbeam gets the job, too....

Looks like a job for Mulder and Scully.

There's a more detailed thread on this in the gunscal.com General Discussion forum. Short story is that Calguns allegedly used more than its allocated share of server resources so the hosting service suspended the account until something can be worked out (either a move or an upgraded plan).

I guess they overlooked that "incident" you were involved in, Rich. ;) :D

Seriously, glad it's just an administrative issue and nothing more.

Sorry I haven't posted this over here, today's been a bit hectic as you may have guessed. Here's the updates in order.

"Hi everyone,
as most of you have noticed Calguns is having an issue.
We have exceeded the usage limits of the server, in fact this is what
was sent:

"Your site calguns.net was suspended because it consumed an excessive
amount of resources.
One of our techs was doing a routine check on the server, and your
site was consuming more than 12% of the servers RAM, and more than
10.47% of the server CPU resources.
Our policy is 10% of the entire servers resources. Anything above this
puts other sites at jeopardy, and slows down the entire server for 200
users."

I am in contact with them trying to work things out, either I will
find out what they can do or look in to a VPS.

Sorry everyone, I listed our specs and they said they had the
resources to handle it. We'll see."

"Sorry I haven't had anymore updates, we have a client in at work so it's a balancing act.
What I have done to maintain continuity and give some time for planning the future is switch the plan with the current host from a shared hosting plan to a VPS hosting plan.
The entire site will be migrated to the new server by tomorrow morning or possibly sooner.
Over the next month or so I will be studying up on VPS and dedicated servers and looking into where to park us permanently, with a new VPS, some of the hosting offered by the members or with the exsisting company if a deal can be made.
Either way this is just a glitch, pay no attention to that odd feeling of deja vu it's nothing."

"As far as I've been told the migration to the new server should occur tonight and we should be up by tomorrow. I can't access the cPanel so I'm guessing the account has been pulled from the shared server and is being set up on the VPS server.
Once things are back up and running I'm going to look at other hosting options, Midphase has not endeared themselves to me with this. I even gave them the url before the move and asked about the load. From what I've been learned a lot of these hosting companies 'oversell' the servers on the bet that most sites won't get near the resource usage advertised. 1 in 100 will have a problem so it's a gamble they can take"

That's where we're at right now, things better be working by the morning or I will be even more upset with the host company.

And now for the latest update.
I checked this morning and Calguns was still down, this did not make my morning bright.

I called Midphase to ask what had happened since I had called yesterday to set this up. I was told the person I spoke with yesterday had not entered a request to transfer the account. Nothing happened because as far as they are concerned no request had been submitted.

I am not pleased. I am very not pleased.

I explained in very certain terms that my site had been down for over 24 hours and looked to be down more because I was told that a transfer would be made yesterday only to find nothing had been submitted. This is unacceptable. This is ludicris behaviour from a 'Professional' company and I am far from being a happy customer.

The person I spoke with this morning said he would submit the transfer as a rush and unsuspend the shared account in the mean time. He graciously offered to waive the set-up fee for he VPS account. I feel so special.

For now we are back up on the shared plan while they work on the VPS transfer.
We are probably not staying with Midphase unless I see some serious incentives and customer service acrobatics. I talking discounts, apologies, extra services or just legit pictures of Nancy Pelosi in compromising positions with a goat and Hugo Chavez. I could live with running the House from behind the curtain.

While the pictures develop I am looking in to real, profesional VPS hosting and will see what presents itself.

Welcome back,
Kest

This is what you find at the place where CALGUNS.NET used to be.

kestryll - from my own experience i understand the situation you're in. running the forum on a shared server is definitely a recipe for disaster.

my advice: rent a dedicated server at rackspace.com - those guys are world-class professionals and their service is top-notch.

Its up now and was up earlier around 8 AM when I checked.

I'm on it now.

I had to delete my cookies and start over with the login process a few days ago.
