Hello,

I'm going on a week-long trip to DC next week. I'd love to do some shopping while in the US (I'm Swedish), and although I do realize that Washington DC probably isn't the most hunting and shooting oriented part of the country, that's where I'm going and that's where I'll do any shopping. From what I see online, US prices tend to be a lot lower than Swedish prices. The dollar is cheap and sales taxes are lower. I'm a student and I'll appreciate any opportunity to get a bargain...

Info on the following would be appreciated:

New hunting boots

A very decent hat or two

Checking out a gun store with black guns and stuff (in Sweden you can find all kinds of old bolt action and break action guns, but laws are extremely restrictive regarding black guns, so that would be cool to check out)

Any store that stocks a lot of hunting/outdoors/shooting stuff

Any other place that I could be interested in

You'll have better luck looking in VA, which you can reach via the Metro.
Had to have a five minute google maps/wikipedia session to understand what you just wrote. I'll have time for that kind of trips. Any recommendations on stores?

There's nothing really near a Metro stop, maybe the EMS near the Clarendon stop. You could also try Hudson Trail Outfitters (one in DC). But, they're mostly for sports/camping than hunting.

If you have access to a car, your best bet for hunting gear/clothes is probably Dicks Sporting Goods (several in the area). They also have long guns for sale, but I haven't looked at their inventory lately. Better yet, the Bass Pro Shop at Arundel Mills Mall.

For just clothes, there's LL Bean in Tysons Corner, REI, and EMS.

Hand guns and "evil black rifles". I believe Sharpshooters in Lorton, VA is closest to DC. I usually go to Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly, VA (they rent lockers). But, there are several gun stores in the area.

If you're looking at renting an AR-15, I overheard the sales guys at Blue Ridge say you have to be a US citizen to shoot those.

That's just off the top of my head.

Check out the NRA firearms museum while you're there. I was there about 10 years ago and it was lots of fun. I think they even have an indoor range too...

Just be aware that bringing a single empty brass cartridge into the district is against the law unless you have the appropriate registration (which you won't).

Well worth the trip! Just make sure you go early enough in the day to spend some time there. We got there at 3PM and had to rush through because they close the museum at 5PM

That can't be stressed enough. Would hate to see you make a trip here and run into problems over something as foolish as the DC gun & ammunition laws. DC can be a nightmare come true unfortunately.
