I am in the process of my police academy and we are allowed to purchase our own 870 Police shotguns if we want to. There is one dealer that sells to my department, but is independent from them. They want $670 for a NIB 870 Police, I think that is a bit steep. They are the Remington LEO dealer for Texas LEO.

I notice that Buds does not have any in stock. Are there any other online dealers that sell 870 police shotguns? Thanks

You could try here: http://www.impactguns.com/store/rem_le.html

But, from what Ive been told by the guys at "impact guns," they generally do not keep these LE shotguns readily available. But rather, they tend to acquire/sell these on an "as needed" basis. Either way, they can get one for you and if nothing else, this at least gives you one more option.

Of course, buying one online or out of state might prove less than ideal, unless speaking of drastic price reduction(s), as you may have to pay for FFL transfer/verification fees + shipping. If able, I would definately consider buying local and if so inclined, possibly bartering on the price (say, $50 or so).

There are several models of 870 Police shotguns, and they will vary in price according to how they are accoutered. The basic 870P should cost around $500 or so. Add extra goodies and the price goes up. Be sure you know what you are buying before you buy, and only pay for stuff you really want on the gun. As a rule it is cheaper in the long run to buy the gun the way you want it (sights, stocks, magazine extensions etc) up front than to add stuff later.

See http://www.remingtonle.com/shotguns/870.htm for what's currently available.

Happy shopping,

Does it have to be the special police model? I figure you can find a used Wingmaster for around $350. $670 for a new 870 is a good price. Is the finish on the police models the express finish or what?

I have always loved the "corncob" style forends that came on the old police models over my Wingmaster foreend.

theres a guy on gunbroker that i dealt with before who builds shotguns. check out http://www.aiptactical.com
he's a real nice guy and very helpful with picking out what you need or don't need. prices don't seem to bad either, depending on what you get.

$670 is way past a little steep in my opinion. I bought a used 12 gauge magnum Wingmaster, 98%, for $250. I believe I could still get one of every goodie known to man and still come out ahead.

Let's say that I would feel more than comfortable taking my 870 Marine Magnum to Police work. But Im too old and out of shape for that sort of thing playing good guy with bad shotgun these days so let's leave it at that. It will have no issues feeding whatever 12 gauge ammuntion, anything except that made for rifled barrels.

I purchased an #4403 870P with synthetic stocks and simple bead sights through my local FFL. here in CA. last year. With tax and transfer fees it came to $660 something.

At that time, best price I found online was $550.00. from these folks: http://www.bigskyguns.com/Police_Miltary_Style-Remington_870_Police_Synthetic_Stock.html

Had I purchased one of those, my FFL fees would have gone from $25.00 to $75.00 gobbling up most of the savings.

It just turned out that there was less hassle going going through the local guy. My savings came when I got a nice unexpected break on a S&W. pistol purchased later through him.
