Where to put a shotgun for HD?

Lock it in the safe when you leave. Pull it out when you arrive home.

Does that sound inconvenient?

Ha! Tell the 'inconvenience' story to anyone who lost a gun to home theft.

Protect your guns. Period.
Well said, ants.
Maybe we should be working on changing a society that wants everything for free and will steal yours. Then we wouldn't need these "safes".

Buy snake loads for a large caliber handgun if you fear penetrating the walls. This "small shot gun" can get you to the large shotgun. Imagine six .44 cal snake loads coming your way and tell me you wouldn't be moving rearward!
Seems like a good way to get hit with a civil suit for "ruining poor timmy's face, he was only looking for a little food he didn't want to hurt anyone."

Shot Gun Rack for HD

I have come across a product that might just fit some of your needs. It is from a company in FL its called ReddiRack, it is made to fit on Interior doors in homes (1 3/8") comes with alocking system to keep the kids off the firearm if necessay. takes 3 minutes to install and once you shut the closet door you have basically hidden your gun. When you open the door to retieve your HD firearm it is at the proper height for a quick response to the problem at hand. I have two of them one for a tactical shotgun (Tri Star) and one for my Mossberg 500. you can get to them at www.reddirack.com the site is not fiished yet but you can contact them.

In my cloeset in the master bedroom, I placed some bicycle hooks inside, above the door, and a shotgun is up there. The only way to see it is to go into the closet, turn around, and look up. All I have to do is reach up and grab it. Out of sight, out of reach of the kids, and easily accesible.

Nah - If I were a criminal in your house with 5 minutes to look, I'd go straight to the bedroom and dump all the drawers, flip the bed, and go in the closet and look around, running my hand across all the clothes. On the way out I'd notice any shotgun at the top of the door. I'd knock off all the pictures and mirrors from the wall to reveal hidden safes. I'd find the hidden jewelry and guns and money. I'd look for concealed walls in the closet. That'd take about 3 minutes. I'd then go the living room and knock over the couches. I'd look in the garage and den for a safe. Lastly I'd check the kitchen drawers quickly.

The problem with wall mounted guns hidden behind mirrors or clocks or paintings is that criminals flip beds, dump drawers AND PULL THINGS OFF WALLS TO REVEAL SAFES, GUNS, ETC...

It's dangerous to hide guns in your house because you could come home to find a criminal with your gun!

Lag bolts into studs are great, but a thief with a reciprocating saw (often found in most peoples garages) can defeat that too.

Best bet is a big heavy burglary resistant safe. Make a routine that when you go to bed, open it and pull out your defensive weapon, then leave it next to your bed at night. In the morning, lock it up.

Naturally nothing is theft proof. One man with 2 skate boards and some duct tape could steal a 600# gun safe. Anyone with a hi-lift jack could rip a safe's bolts from the floor. A criminal can bring their own weapon...

A home defense shotgun which is out of reach, or just a safe combination away, is of little value.

I'm waiting for delivery of my Mossberg 500 20" pistol grip. Call me crazy, but I think a good place for it to rest at night is just to my right. The same spot my wife once occupied. And I won't complain a bit about the Mossberg being loaded.
