Are there any legal outdoor shooting area around Thousand Oaks, Ca. where you can plink at cans, ballons or whatknots?

Thanks,

Kevin

I don't think that there is anyplace to shoot outdoors in the Conejo Valley. It ois definately illegal to shoot in any of the city and county owned green space, and the SM NRA is out of bounds.

I used to drive into Los Padres National Forest. They closed the Condor Santuary to shooting a couple of years ago (above Fillmore) a couple of years ago, but you can shoot in the NF off of Hwy 33 - except for fire season. Cherry Creek is a good spot, but the gate is usually closed and locked and I don't want to hoof all my stuff in.

Lately I have been shooting at Wes Thompson's range above Piru. It's abiut 40 minutes from Newbury Park, but it's convenient and relatively inexpensive. There's also great cowbot action shooting (SASS & Western 3 Gun) up the road a little bit.

Piru is closer and much less expensive than Angeles. And fewer neo-Nazi skinheads...

Admittedly, my last vist to the Angeles range was about 10 years ago. That was enough for me. Have things improved since then?

Angeles is a nice place. There is also Oak Tree. They have PLENTY of reactive pistol targets for you to shoot at. Check out the pics:

bgddy58,
I think you might be thinking of Lytle Creek or Kentucky Range, both places degenerated to a point where no sane gun owner wanted to venture out to them. Kentucky has been closed down now for years but Desert Marksman (private) is still there. Lytle Creek has been taken over and is now a range controlled by an office and RO's.

Angeles itself under went it's own changes years ago, they cleaned up some of the junk that was laying around and put up steel targets. You can also place paper targets out to 300 yards (on a slow day).

50 Shooter,

Thanks, good to know. I guess that I should venture out there and see for myself - as I mentioned it's been a loong time.
