Where to start the journey?

New guy here. As I've been wading my way through the sea of aftermarket parts I've been wondering not and more how I can maybe make my own, or rather have them manufactured. The plethora of things for Stoners platform and a pile of big name pistols are thick, though it seems the shotgun market has always been left last. I'm just wondering if I can make a part that's similar to what's on the gun but improved for ease of use and reliability. I don't wanna have them sent to me and modified. I wanna make and sell my own. I suppose patents are involved? Or do I just need to make it just different / unique enough?

If it's patented, you will need to read the patent to determine just what is patented. Could be a small detail, could be the whole concept. They do have to say it is patented on the product.
