Which 38 for range use?

Funny that everyone missed one of the best .38 pistols for wife and family. I refer to the Ruger LCRx 3", which combines light weight, adjustable sights, a good mid-size grip, and affordable price. My own .357 is a 4" S&W model 66, which is all the weight I care to handle, but is just too unwieldy for my wife. With 158gr. LSWC bullets and 3.2 gr. of 231 or HP-38, the recoil is low enough to be fun to shoot, yet you're definitely shooting a center fire. The idea of a range gun is something that is fun to shoot for the person using it, not the biggest gun they can handle.

I shot a guys mod 10 old police revolver this weekend. Easy to shoot! Fixed sights, but hit POA. Model 64 is another nice budget classic.

I picked up a 6" M19 to use as a 38spcl range gun. The partridge sights and long sight radius should make for a very accurate pistol.

+1 for the K98 Target Masterpiece. My favorite rang gun, super accurate, wonderful trigger.
Also agree on the SS in 32 HRM. It's a downsized Blackhawk. You can shoot 32 ACP for plinking
Either of those are heirloom quality

If just a fun gun at the range, save your wallet and be easy on your kids. Get a buckmark or ruger in .22.

Hit the gun shows.

At the last one, I saw a ton of Colt Officer's Models in your price range. Not great for carry, but amazing at the range.

It was a real struggle to keep my wallet in my pocket.

I am looking into a range gun for my wife and kids. I am torn between a cz75 or a 38/357 revolver. I have been avoiding 357 for years since i shoot a lot of 44, but the size, recoil, and balance of a 3"-4" 38 just seems like it would be perfect for my wife and 10 yr old. I will be loading for this gun so ammo cost isn't really a concern, but i may carry it occasionally so probably not looking for a 12" barrel. Cosmetics don't matter as much as good grips do (have shot a few 357s that i didn't like due to grips) and basic affordability is high on the list. Good trigger and good sights are high on the list too. So guys and gals, whats the best gun for what i'm looking for? S&W, Taurus, Rossi, Iver Johnson, etc. 44Spl wouldn't be out of the equation either, but i think a 38 might fit the bill better. What say you?

My favorite range gun is the police trade-in S&W Model 10 I bought, and I don't have to chase the brass to gather for my reloads.

The S&W 38 special is a great shooter, super-reliable, and easy on cost to shoot.

Wives, daughters and grand daughters all have a mind of their own.
I have a bunch of weapons accumulated over 50 yrs,
wiffe tries them all selltled on a 38 spl 4 in charter arms
Daughter 1 likes Ruger police service six
daughter #2 a model 19
daughter 3 likes auto's in 45
both grand daughters prefer SAA

Go figure.

Ymmv.

My wife's favorite is my 6" GP100 with light loaded 38's. She also likes my Single Six, but finds loading and unloading of a single action to be awkward. It's easier to see what's going on, and which chambers are loaded, and to load and unload with a double action.

I guess I'm different. Cz75b . Every Cz I pick up is a wonderful shooter. Solid. Accurate. If I didn't carry a Glock it would be a CZ.
