i have a marlin 336 30-30 i want to get rid of, and replace it with a good .44mag levergun. i was leaning towards the ruger. i dont know anybody that has a .44mag carbine so i cant shoot one:(

I assume you mean the latest DeerSlayer .44 mag. I have seen and handled this rifle and am very disappointed in it. Birch stock and Frankenmonster of the Mini 14. Get the original Deerslayer, much better quality (walnut stock) and goes for the same price. I agree with others that the Marlin's very hard to beat, but if you like a semi-auto Ruger's your only choice.

If you aren't in a rush to buy , search around and see if you can find an old Marlin marked "336-44T" . Real easy to feed and it feels like your 336 'cause that's the action they started with . If you like the 1894 , I've found mine doesn't like semiwadcutters maybe a fluke , don't know

I really like my Marlin 1894P carbine.
Very handy and compact, but still holds 10 rounds. I installed a peep sight and it really makes for a very fast handling package.
The only drawback I have found, is the lever opening is a bit on the small side. There are large loops available for the 1894P but they're quite expensive and IIRC require fitting by a gunsmith.
Take Care
