Which AK chest rig?

Which chest rig to accompany my AKs? And most importantly, why?

Templar Tactical Insurgent Chest Rig

Or the US palm Attack rack?

I'm leaning towards the Attack Rack. I recently saw the insurgent on sale at a price that makes it about half the price of the attack rack. I'd rather spend the extra money however if the US palm is notably better. Thoughts?

I haven't had any experience with these two companies, but I will say that the Tactical Insurgent looks less bulky, and I like the drawstring cinches around the magazine pouches.

I personally use an Eagle 3-mag AK rig for the MOLLE webbing, or Blackhawk 8-mag AK rig for extra magazines.

High quality, good price, I have one and it's definitely a good fit for 3-gun or 2-gun type competition, or even defensive scenarios that don't involve carting around cases of ammo.

I don't have that version. I'm sure it's the same quality, but two benefits of the first rig I listed is (1) open top pouches for easy draw, and (2) ability to use the rig with most common types of mags including M4/M16 mags, FAL, M14, AK, etc. mags.

What are the prices of the ones you're looking at?

Go with whichever costs less. There's not a dimes worth of difference between the two.

MOLLE, MOLLE, MOLLE.

With MOLLE setups you can change the various pouches around however you like, when ever you like. Want to try a dump pouch right in the middle, no problem. Want to try a pistol holster cross draw, you can do that. Realize both are stupid ideas and want to change them around? Easy as unlacing the MOLLE and relacing.

That said, I've been using the Tactical Tailor chest rigs as a base with Emdom AK mag pouches. Those have been working very well for me. I just swapped the mag cases onto a surplus Eagle Ind rig I picked up and I like how that setup balances my 3L water bag with the loaded mags.

An important thing to remember with MOLLE, just because you have empty space doesn't mean you need to fill it up with a doo-dad. BSW

That is one use it might see. That and carbine courses.

I started with a MOLLE vest and I find it inconvenient for gaming uses (and most carbine courses would be very similar, if not less demanding). It's rather large, bulky, and a bit heavy. Adding all the various pouches via MOLLE makes the end result stiffer and heavier than using a simple chest rig where it's all permanently sewed together. Yes, it is configurable, but for gaming use I don't see that being really important.

The Eagle chest rigs, and some others, have MOLLE webbing on the sides so you can add some additional accessories, but have your basic mag pouches permanently attached where they are almost certainly going to end up anyway, saving some cost, weight, and stiffness. You'll appreciate this if you're standing around in 90 degree heat waiting for your turn at the current stage.

I don't mean to be preachy though, and certainly a MOLLE setup can work just fine, but I don't think it ends up being ideal for gaming or carbine course usage.

Still haven't found the perfect rig. I love my ChiCom 5 mag man purse and my ChiCom Type 63 chest rig but those are both for toting mags in the woods. My last favorite full rig is from Blackhawk and is a MOLLE set up and is currently in the for sale area.

have you tried the bulgarian chest rig? they are light, comfy, and hold lots of mags.

Usually, you can get them at gunshows. got mine, with pouches with mags allready in them, a freshly started cigarette, and a big wet kiss, for 70 bucks.
