So here is the deal. I have all the 223 rifles that I want. I am looking to diversify by buying one or two rifles in 7.62x39. The obvious choice is an AK and I already have a Saiga that could be converted to accept AK Mags. The only thing that is making me rethink this is the VZ58/2008. I held one yesterday and it feels right. How good are these guns? Are the mags readily available for the VZ and how much are they on average? Should I stick with a gun that takes AK mags?

got my vz2008 from the FFL yesterday. cleaned and oiled it today. You can get them for 400$(5 mags, bayonet, sling, cleaning kit) from PSA, they had free shipping. everything was "New" expect my sling. Cant tell you how good it is, but will after some range time.

WOW!

That is a good price. I guess I won't be buying mine locally. I am going to check out PSA now. Thanks for the heads up.:D

If you already have a Saiga, get a Vper from Atlantic Arms. After Saiga's, they are the best in my opinion. I've had my eye on one for a while but my Saiga is still the apple of my eye. Saiga's have went up in price since I bought mine and are becoming scarce.

Polish Ak's are also good quality from what I hear. Man I love me some Ak's

one word of warning, PSA takes 2-3 weeks for your order to be processed.

My last two orders from PSA arrived at my house in less than a week.

They are definitely improving their shipping times.

I would save up a little more and get a saiga, just because the way things are currently between the U.S and Russia and new sanctions

Why would the same Saiga, now more expensive and with no factory service, be advantageous now? The VZ61 is superior to the AK in pretty much every way in any case ;)

I would say IZMASH made AKM would be most desirable. These are bench line assembly by hand guns. Chinese ones made two decades or more ago are just as desirable.
Remember these are semi-auto versions of guns financed by CIA into Afgans fighting forces of the Soviet Union. Quite ironically these are now in use against Americans.
