I should probably amend my response. There's no doubt but that over a lifetime, I've shot more .22LR rounds than anything else. However, I currently shoot more 9mm than .22LR.

I shoot mostly .38 spec. And .357 mag. Also close second would be .22 all my handguns except one (.380) are either .357. .38. Or .22. The .380 is a WW2 1934 Beretta which is a bring back from Italy after the war, Beautiful gun.

I shoot .40 cal the most because that's what my competition piece is chambered for.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have started with at 9mm.

But now I have one of each for the same model :D

right now it's 9mm because my most recent gun purchase is a glock 19. before that it was 45 acp due to the purchase of a kimber in that caliber. before the 22lr shortage hit it was always 22lr.

I shoot most my 5.56 followed by 308 and then 44 mag.
Use to be 22 lr before it became impossible to find for a decent price.

Other.

Currently, it is .32-20 ... bitten by The .32-20 Bug so I am working up loads (backyard range) and looking for nice .32-20 firearms to acquire.

In the past ~2 months, to the original Colt Army Special 4" (my late grandfather's) I have added two 5" Colt Police Positive Specials, a 6" S&W Model 1905 Hand Ejector and a Marlin Model 27-S Pump-Action rifle.

Yes, I am enjoying myself. :)

Technically 10mm, but loaded to .40 levels. Almost all my shooting these days is USPSA, and that's what I shoot in competition, so there you go.

Two Toss Ups.

Handgun: .45ACP & .40SW - I carried and used a 1911A1 in the Corps and as a leo-detective. In 1998 a patient let me “steal” his Glock 27. From that time on I found myself carrying it more and more. The .40SW gives up very little to the .45ACP and the G-27 is a great platform for it.

Rifle: 7.62x39 & 5.56x45 - I carried and used the AK-47 in the Corps and went to the 5.56x45 as a civilian because I preferred the AR-15 platform. I recently acquired a 7.62 upper for my AR and I am now using it more than the 5.56

Shotgun: 12 gauge in almost infinite variations. No toss up.

It used to be .22lr but now that .22lr is a PITA to find in any worthwhile quantity and costs about as much as I can reload 9mm, its 9mm I shoot the most now.

Years ago, I would have said 9mm, but since I started reloading a few years ago, I would say .357 Mag/.38 Spl.

I hate chasing cases. Especially in grass. :fire:

.30-06
I'm feeding two Springfield M1s, a Remington 1917, a Springfield 1903 and a Remington 03A3. The bolt-actions I load for, the Garands get HXP.

Other. 5.45x39. Still have a bit of 7N6 laying around but even the new production stuff is cheap enough for frequent plinking sessions and the 74 is a joy to shoot.

Can't really say, I shoot about as much high powered rifle, as I do handgun, and various calibers of each. It just depends on my mood I guess.

I'm a little surprised that so far .22lr is tied with 45acp. I'd have thought the cost of the 45 would be a hindrance. I guess it is a very popular caliber, though...

One of my favorite childhood memories are the tv shows of the mid 1960s.
If memory serves me correctly Joe Friday carried a snubnose .38 (Dragnet)
I believe Pete Malloy & Jim Reed also carried 38s (Adam 12)

My first handgun was a .38 special snubnose.
I've always called it my Dick Tracy

I kinda got that one dialed in - I roll my own ammo & have it pretty darn accurate.
