I have tried all different kinds of pocket holsters and have probably spent $1,000 on just pocket holsters alone (for various different handguns). I seem to always go back to the Galco horsehide version… it molds to your pocket/leg well, it wears very well and for some reason the leather just feels right to me.
The Galco horsehide is a little larger than many other pocket holsters, but I’ve found that the larger size is not much of a factor because it appears that they made it a tad wider to mold around your leg a little better and to enable it to remain in the pocket better when drawing. It also tends to cover the slide a little higher than most other pocket holsters I’ve tried – which doesn’t add bulk really because it is only covering the slide that is there… other holsters just cover less of the slide and that doesn’t make the gun less bulky. I guess what I’m trying to explain – yes the Galco horsehide tends to be a little larger than many others, but what matters is “does it make carrying the gun more bulky”, my experience is no it does not – just does a better job protecting the handgun in your pocket.
I strongly recommend the horsehide… if cost is a major factor, I know quite a few people that are very happy with some of the similar nylon versions… hope this helps.
