I'm interested in either Galco's front pocket holster which I believe is horsehide and their "pocket protector" model, for my 340M&P. Out of these two holsters which is the least bulky of the two? i've read that the galco front pocket horsehide holster is a bit big and doesn't work well in some pockets is this true? What can you guys here tell me about these pocket rigs as far as how well they draw and conceal?

I have tried all different kinds of pocket holsters and have probably spent $1,000 on just pocket holsters alone (for various different handguns). I seem to always go back to the Galco horsehide version… it molds to your pocket/leg well, it wears very well and for some reason the leather just feels right to me.

The Galco horsehide is a little larger than many other pocket holsters, but I’ve found that the larger size is not much of a factor because it appears that they made it a tad wider to mold around your leg a little better and to enable it to remain in the pocket better when drawing. It also tends to cover the slide a little higher than most other pocket holsters I’ve tried – which doesn’t add bulk really because it is only covering the slide that is there… other holsters just cover less of the slide and that doesn’t make the gun less bulky. I guess what I’m trying to explain – yes the Galco horsehide tends to be a little larger than many others, but what matters is “does it make carrying the gun more bulky”, my experience is no it does not – just does a better job protecting the handgun in your pocket.

I strongly recommend the horsehide… if cost is a major factor, I know quite a few people that are very happy with some of the similar nylon versions… hope this helps.

Thanks I am getting my Charter Arms Undercover out of layaway come my August payday. I got a old one that had spent 95% of its life in a dresser drawer. I was looking at a pocket holster for it and was looking at Galco.

Never had a Galco but have a Kramer pocket holster for my 442 and it was worth every penny. Have used it daily for 10 or 12 years and it still looks new.

Not a big fan of the Galco. It is on the large side and doesn't offer any help in the way of printing. When using it I usually wad up a hankerchief and stuff it in my pocket to break up the gun's outline...not the best solution as I don't want anything besides my gun in the pocket when carrying that way. Much better (for me) is a holster that has a panel built in to conceal the shape of the gun like this one:
