Which glass would you put on a 10/22 Target...UPDATE...New question

I have a 10/22 target on the way and am looking at 2 options...and please give me other ideas too. This will be for fun target plinking at the range and have a budget around 200.00.

1st Nitrex TR One 3-9x42mm Rifle Scope Matte Finish Ballistic X Reticle

2nd Mueller APV http://www.opticsplanet.net/mueller-optics-4-5-14x40mm-ao-apv-rifle-scope.html

IMO, the Nitrex is the best deal going for a big game scope. Only problem might be the parallax at rimfire distances.
No experience with the Mueller.
Nikon rimfire models should be worth a look, and there's probably something in the Bushnell Trophy XLT line.

The Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 Rimfire BDC is a good choice. Nikon makes excellent scopes for the money.

The BDC reticle in that particular scope is specifically designed for rimfire.

Consider a Redfield in a 2-7x or 3-9x. Same price range as the Weaver branded ones, it's made by Leupold.

Nothing wrong with the Weavers, but the Redfield's are a good option too.

Depends on how you plan to shoot, bench target then the Mueller APV 4x14 is ideal, hunting, plinking the Redfield 2x7,both very clear with top spot going to the Mueller. I have both and prefer the Mueller.

The Nitrex scope I bought on a whim is my favorite scope it's a 6-20X50 and I have it on a .22 target rifle. I would recommend the Nitrex you list but can't because it doesn't have AO. That something you need if you are shooting a target .22. So go with the Mueller or bump the budget up to one of the Nitrex scopes with AO.

I have Nikon Prostaff BDC (not rimfire) on all of mine including the 22mags and they work very well.

For the budget minded walmart centerpoint 4-16 for 69 bucks. For a step up midway usa has had a clearence sale ever couple months on a BSA 30mm tube 6-24 x 44 TMD 30mm tube and side focus. Great scope. 140.00 for a 250 dollar scope.

Sorry, i know the question was "which of these 2 scopes," but thought i'd say i recently picked up a Simmons 22 MAG 3-9x32 for $50 at Big5, for my 10/22. and i was shocked at how bright and clear the glass was for that price. Parallax is set at 50 yds, eye relief is fairly good...heck of a value for the dollar, IMO. Killed a dozen or so sage rats in the month i've had it. Seems like a great performing, inexpensive little scope for a great performing, inexpensive little rifle.

Friend of mine actually has the same scope on his sporterized Mosin-Nagant carbine. It's held up on that for over a year now, though i'm not entirely convinced his zero doesn't creep under the recoil of the 54r....either that or he's not so good a shot as he boasts....

OK I picked the APV...

Now I am needing to mount it. I was thinking about a DNZ mount but which height mount...LOW or MEDIUM. This gun will have the .920 heavy barrel and I wanted to mount it as low as possible. Those with this setup will the low rings work?

Google is your friend..... http://www.leupold.com/_pdfs/BaseFit_RingHght.pdf

If it were me, I would err on the side of caution and go with medium height for the Mueller, Low might work however.

I dont know if you guys knew it or not, but DNZ used to be DeadNutz. Great one piece mounts for the 10-22.

I would've gone with the APT but the APV is a good one too.

You can get away with a 1-4x or a fixed 4x centerfire scope on a rimfire but the higher powered variables will cause noticeable parallax issues at higher magnification. It was wise not to go with the 3-9x.

Low rings won't work. Need mediums.

I went with low rings on my APV. With the size of the objective on the scope and a heavy barrel you'll probably need medium rings. Mine just BARELY clears the barrel but only because I have a fluted barrel and the scope dips down into the top flute.

saenzrich,

What kind of a stock do you have?

As far as scope height goes, you have two issues, one is the bell clearing the barrel; the other is whether you have a proper cheek-weld with the stock when looking through the scope.

My hunting 10/22 has a Hogue overmold stock, and i use low rings for proper alignment, but my target set-up has a Boyd's thumbhole stock that has a much higher comb.

Bases being equal, the two stocks demand different height rings. ...and of course, not all bases are equal: the height of the rail off the receiver varies between aftermarket products. (as does ring heights between manufacturers.) If you have a new 10/22 with the factory piccatinny rail, as opposed to the older guns that only came with a 3/8" dovetail rail....

This will be going on the 10/22 Vleh 1230 model with the hogue overmold stock...from the sound of it I will need the medium height DNZ rings...
