I have a Kimber stainless, which is a matte stainless. I swapped out the stock black rubber grips with a set of Alumagrips that I bought at the NRA annual meetings a couple of years ago. I got the black ones with the fleur-de-lis :). I like the feel and looks of the Alumagrips but they are very slim and I have big hands.

I really like Hakan's work but am having a hard time envisioning his grips on my stainless. Any recommendations of which ones would look good?

Thanks.

I had some custom etched alumagrips when I had a 1911, they looked great and since they were custom they had a lot of sentimental value.

Cocobolo wood is always nice

Since you want something that fills your hand and looks good with stainless, how about some fancy cocobolo wood grips? Here are some checkered cocobolo on my Colt Gold Cup:

I personally think that a nice stainless 1911 deserves a set of Ahrends or Esmerelda Cocobolo wood grips. Preferably the half checkered versions.

Few setups look classier in my opinion.

For 1911 grips there is only one choice of material: wood. And for wood, there is only one choice: Esmerelda.

Anything else is pure sacrilege. If you put anything else on your gun the 1911 police will come and confiscate it and replace it with a Glock.

Seriously, check out Esmerelda's grips - they are absolutely beautiful.

I will take the Alumagrips if you want to sell them !!!!!!
send a pm if you do.

Grips

If you are looking for a variety of grips go to NightHawk Customs.
If you are a 1911 fan then this is the site for you. Just look under Grips on the left side of screen and you will see them.
Great selection. Let me know what you think!

Esmerelda Cocobolo wood grips. Preferably the half checkered versions.

My Defender and LTW Commander both wear her fine grips. I will be buying more.

When you order custom wood grips, you can have them made a touch thicker to better fit your hands. They can also be contoured with thumb rest & finger grooves.

Kimbers typically have flat MSH right? You might be able to add a tad more to the grips if you change to an arched MSH.

"...the very best."

I like Ironwood too, but I don't see any. www.novaksights.com/Grips/craig_spegel.htm#1911_PATTERN

I put Spegel's on my Colt WWI Repro. :)

Those wood grips are gorgeous, but if you want it to sit on your hand like it was glued, take a look at VZ Gator grips. They're certainly not as pretty as some of the wood in this thread, but there's a reason Nighthawk uses them.

No matter what kind of goo, crud, or sweat you've got on your hands, Gators sit still. Brownell's sells VZ grips, and they come in different colors.

Cheapo Rubber Grips

I bought the cheapo 15 buck rubber grips with finger molds for my 1911, damn are those nice. It feels weird holding a normal 1911 now.

I know the purist types think it's breaking a commandment, but they work nice for me. Most people who hold it agree.

Not pretty, just functional.

I have become a big fan of Falcon Industries Ergo Grip 1911 grip panels.
Nothing fancy, yet they are unbreakable, provide good gripping surface even if your hands are wet or sweaty, and they just look good on a stainless steel handgun.
These grips come in Black, Dark Matte Green, and 'Coyote' which is a medium brown color.

S&W FAN IS RIGHT !

Wicked Grips have some crazy grips that are to very cool.
It is worth a few minuts to check them out and see what they have. If you are looking for custom then this is the place.

Theres a guy on here from Vietnam who makes grips out of bone, but i forget his exact screen name. I think its Vkim or something. If you search Dust Of Life you should be able to find him though:) very nice looking grips.
