Which Gun is better for a new shooter?

My advice is to take a Basic Handgun Safety Course and learn the basics of handgun safety first. Then make it a habit to keep going to the local pistol range that rents guns, and try out as many of the guns on your list that you can. In addition to the ones you list, try out others, including revolvers; you might surprise yourself! Give yourself as much time as you need to go out and practice with as many different guns as possible before you commit to a purchase. I took the NRA Basic Handgun Safety course, and then rented guns for over 6 months before I bought a handgun, so this advice comes from my own experience.

out of those choices i would go with an XD9. NOT PORTED. There is really no reason for a ported gun especially for a novice. it has more cons than pros for you. I like the XD over the Glock because its more user friendly because if your not well versed in guns a few extra safety features cant hurt. also the XD is cheaper just in case you dont like shooting too much you arent out as much. i recomend the 9mm because the smaller the caliber the easier it will be for a new shooter to learn.

For first time shooters, I generally recommend a good double action revolver in either .38 special or .357 magnum/.38 special, with a 4" barrel.

However, I agree about the advice to try several guns at a range before buying. If after trying several guns out a semi-auto works better for you, then go for it!

I started with an XD-9 Bi-tone Service and quite happy I did. It is a great little pistol.
