Which hand should I shoot handguns with?

Eye dominance is really not an issue with handguns...you can shift /train either eye. Ergonomics of operation is more important. Which hand does it feel better in and can you operate all the features that way, especially the safety and mag / cyclinder release. I'm right eye dominant but can shoot left because of right astigmatism.

I'm right handed and shoot guns from the right side. But, when something blocks my right eye, my left eye takes over and I cannot see the sight. The opposite happens if I switch to the left side.

For handgun and rifle, I close my left eye. I know, not desirable but it works for me.

For skeet and other shotgun games, I put a patch on my left eye glasses so that when I am looking down the barrel, my right eye has the sight picture. But, I can use both eyes when I am not looking down the barrel. It helped improve my averages greatly.

Several years ago before cataract surgery, I went prairie dog shooting. The cataracts prevented me from seeing much from my right eye. I shot the whole time left handed and did fairly well. So, being able to shoot off hand can be handy.

P.S. Things are back to "normal" after my cataract surgery and I can see again. :)
