Which one would you like to have back?

The ones I would most like back;

An Ithaca x5 Lightning .22 rifle. My folks gave it to me for my birthday one year. They sold it while I was in the Army, guess they figured I didn't need it anymore.

An old sxs shotgun that was my dads, one of my brothers in law stole it.

The only gun I have ever sold, a Ruger MkII, best trigger I have ever felt on a handgun.

What a painful thread this is to read.

For my part, and after selling a couple that I sort of wish I hadn't, I subsequently developed my "Handgun Rule #1" which is: "Never sell a pistol; only buy them". That's been my philosophy for quite a number of years so I don't have any of the gun wrenching regrets I've read about here.

However, I'll offer what led up to my Handgun Rule #1 here:
I bought a brand new Model 39, which I really liked.
But what I really wanted was a Model 59.
So I sold the Model 39 to a friend and then bought my Model 59.
But the Model 59 was sort of problematic, so I sold it and bought it's successor, the Model 559.
But I really wanted the stainless model, so I sold the 559 and bought the 659 (have I lost anyone yet?).
But my brother-in-law talked me out of the 659 in a weak moment after which I missed the darn thing so I bought a 5906 (the 659's successor).
It was right at that time that Handgun Rule #1 was officially implemented, and the 5906 is still with me.
A minor addendum to this is that I also liked the compact 6906, so I bought one of them (and of course, still kept the 5906).

So in the end, I still ended up with what I essentially started with and I have no serious regrets. If there is one, it might be that I let go of that first in the lineage, the Model 39. But I'll get over it because I still get to play with the 5906 and the 6906.

Among the list of regrets I DON'T have because I bought and still have these pistols, are many of those listed here in this thread.
And by the way Bubbygator (post#16), I bought that exact same Commander many years ago but have neglected to fire it yet so it's still NIB. I'll be sure to think of you the next time I pick it up. ;)

The problem with my rule, however, is that at some point in my old age, I'm going to have to start letting go of them. I hope I can count on some of you here to take some of them off my hands when the time comes. :what:

Too many!

There are a few that I wished I hadn't sold and am trying to replace. Most notible are the pre- and series 70's Colt 1911's.
1. My carry gun as an armed guard was a Colt Series 70 9mm Combat Commander with Coltguard Nickle.
2. A WWII era green phosphate 1911A1 goverment model, all hardware checkered.
3. A pre-series 70 LW commander ser# 1xxx in 99% condition!
4. 100% condition Colt pocket positive
5. 1918 circa M1911 Colt
6. Browning Sweet 16 shotgun
7. Remington Model 8 in 35 Rem in 95% condition.

I don't regret having sold or traded about 250 guns, except the list above.
I think the other posters rule is a good one. Never get rid of a gun you enjoy. My friends say the same of their Leica cameras, don't ever sell an M6.

cheers,
Ed

Acme Phase Pulse Rifle with Nova Holo sight. I can't find them in my local gun stores anymore :scrutiny: . Goverment must have banned them :banghead: .

My first HK USP 45. Not that it's different then the ones I now own... but it was the first handgun I bought as soon as I turned 21. I've bought two others since then but I would love to get THAT one back.

M43 Firestar. Should have fixed it (other than gunsmith dunking it) rather than sell it. It worked fine prior to its little swim in the Gulf of Mexico.

I got a story for you:

-When I moved up from Florida to New Jersey, I had a very sweet AR15 with a free-floating fluted precision barrel, match trigger and topped with a very nice variable Leupold...

-God, it makes me sick even recounting all this.... Anyway....

-I had to move to NJ for schooling and in NJ my Bushmaster was illegal because it was a Bushmaster "Assault Rifle". So I got rid of it, took the bath of my life and moved to NJ, legal-eagle all the way.

-Now here's the rub: I went and bought myself a Colt AR15 "Sporting Rifle" which was exactly like my Bushy, but just a plain-jane model and costing more because of NJ prices.

-The EXACT same gun.......just different names......

-Guess what? A few months later they LEGALIZED the Bushmasters.

:barf: :barf: :barf:

Oops, I guess that was a rifle and not a handgun...

As for handguns? I'd say I really, really miss my Ruger Vaquero. Like an incomprehensible idiot, I sold it to fund a Mossy 590, which I wound up getting rid of because I actually wanted the 590A1 and had bought the wrong gun.

-This topic is horrible... It's replete with mountains of tragedy and stupid mistakes.

I now wish when I had an SW 651, I sent it in for an optional 22 LR cylinder. I really didn't like it as a 22 mag but with the extra cylinder it would have plinked away and these guys went up in value.

I also wish I kept my first copy of the Justice League of America which I remember reading as a kid in about 1959 but is now worth many thousands.

There was also this girl ---- but wait, I think she got rid of me :D

The one I miss the most is Colt Magnum Carry. And a Beretta 92 Compact type M. I'd really like to find one of those again.

Not too many. Have lucked out on a few and got "stuck on stupid" a few times as well--but like Jean Reno in "Ronin" you move on.

But while we're on the subject:

An original 5" S&W M21 (1200 made total, so I hear);
A M24 S&W 6"
Two M28s;
A M29 4", blued.

Obviously N frames slip right through my fingers. Except for the factory lettered 5" Triple Lock target that didn't.

I *never* get rid of the fun ones.

Colt 1911 45 with a Colt ace 22 conversion kit sure wish I had that one back
Sometimes you think you are making good money only to later find its almost impossible to replace

No handguns on the "regret selling" list. The only one's I've unburdened myself of were a Jennings .22 popgun and an FIE .38 derringer, and I'm better off without them.

I kind of wish I still had my Charter Arms AR-7, to see if I could tinker it into functioning well. I traded it for a floppy drive (a 720K at that), back in the day (~1990) when they were worth about what I paid for the AR-7. I was poor(er) then and needed to replace one of the drives on my Atari ST.

There is only one that I regret selling and I really regret selling it. It was a S&W model 36 with a 3" barrel and my regret stems not from the gun itself but for sentimental reasons I didn't appreciate at the time.

I got one back today! 4" 686 no dash and no lock. I sold mine back in 93 and regretted it ever since.

Congrats! I also have a 4" 686 no dash and it's the last gun I'd sell. This thread is interesting because besides the 686, the 640 and Security-Six are also mentioned, which means I should definitely think twice before getting rid of mine. Almost sold the Security-Six twice! I thought the 686 made it expendable ... both equally accurate though.

I've sold two guns.

A Kahr MK40 Elite98 and a Rock River AR-15 (I sold the Kahr to buy the AR, realizing my mistake I sold the AR to buy another Kahr ... this time an MK9 Elite98).

I want both of them back. :(

I wish I would have kept my 9mm HK USP that I traded away for a Maadi AKM. That was back in early '94 when the USPs were still new and right before the AWB ban was going to be passed in Congress. I panicked and traded off the USP to get another evil 'Assault Rifle' while I still could. I have regretted that move ever since.

Like an earlier poster mentioned, I had a Ruger Security Six in 357mag many years ago and I sold it to a friend of mine. I have regretted that for years. :banghead: It was the stainless model in the 2 3/4" bbl and shot great. I would love to have that gun back.
