My earmuffs ended up smoking the batteries after 3 yrs of use and am looking for another set. Problem is there's about a million different kinds out there. I can't use the foam plugs because I have hear what's going on at the range firing line and I sure as hell can't afford the those 500.00 ones.
Anybody have any experience with some good relative inexpensive earmuffs? I'd like them to be waterproof as well.

Don't own a pair but have use them and really liked them, plan to buy them.
Peltor tac 7

They really muffle the sound and the volume for range commands is fantisic. Cost is about $100 to $130.

I use foam ear plugs or the cheap $7 ear muffs that are the Winchester ones from Wally World. I don't see the need for fancy ones that are electronic.

You do if you need to hear and understand range commands. If you can hear the commands with foam or cheap muffs on you're hurting your ears. Ask me how I know? What'd she say?
Can't you turn the tv down, do you have to have it that loud.
Yeh just ask me.

I use Peltor Sport Tac for all my shooting be it on the range or hunting.
I'm keeping the hearing i have left so i don,t become a totaly deaf old git

I am an RSO and need the electronic ones to both hear and block noise. The once I had worked pretty well until I started to smell something burning. I felt the right earmuff and it was pretty toasty. Looked inside and the 3 aaa batteries were starting to melt.
I read about the Peltor's and the Sport model had some pretty good reviews.

my high speed unit in the Army sometimes forgot to bring earplugs to the range. Everyone had to smoke to cigs before we could shoot, to stuff the butts in our ears. yup....high speed :D
