which pair would you choose?

My choice would be the .357 combo. Gotta love wood and steel.
The .22 combo could have ammo reliability issues.
The AR and HK are two I just don't care to own.

Well, I never found that classic revolvers (with which I'm not actually familiar) had the 'right' type of ergos.

A) If ammo costs are Not a factor, and for character, assuming that You enjoy older revolvers, probably the top pair.

B) But for some character and frequent plinking fun at lower relative costs, the bottom pair.

Just to be clear, this is just a for-fun scenario evaluation. It is entertaining to consider the relative usefulness of firearms. Sort of like fantasy football.

I didn't know that going in. But since this is the internet and what I type doesn't really matter much to others, I picked the .357 combo.

Reasons?

Fun and for the love of using manually operated arms.
Capable (of what? to be determined by the user).
No magazines needed.
Both chambered for the same cartridge.

357mag Marlin 1894 and 357mag GP100
without any other choice this would be it......but. I already have a Rossi model 92 in .357 with it's companion S&W 686. Both are stainless and both highly accurate. A better choice(IMHO) would be my Marlin '94 in .44 mag or my Ruger 77/44 with it's companion S&W 629.

Just for fun....of these three pairs, which would you choose if you could have just one pair? All three are compelling choices. I think I'd go with the AR-15 and the HKP30L 9mm despite the caliber mismatch. What are your thoughts?

357mag Marlin 1894 and 357mag GP100
Ruger American 22LR and Ruger MK2 22LR
AR-15 in 223 and HK P30L 9mm
Just for fun? Well, let's see:
1. 357mag Marlin 1894 and 357mag GP100? Probably not. I'd like a lever gun, and that one would certainly fit the bill, but I'm not a big revolver guy, so I'd likely never shoot the GP100.

2. Ruger American 22LR and Ruger MK2 22LR? Most likely choice right here. I have 2 RARs, but I wouldn't mind another in a different configuration. And I had a Ruger Standard (Mark I), so I'm pretty confident I'd shoot the living bejeebers out of a Mark II.

3. AR-15 in 223 and HK P30L 9mm? Second choice. I wouldn't mind an AR, and I've wanted an HK for some time. I'm not sure how much I'd like the P30L, but I'd sure like to run some rounds through an HK to see if I like heavy, overbuilt, German guns. I suspect I would.

I would want more info as to the reason why, but I probably would choose the AR and the H&K. In a "Red Dawn" situation I would think it wise to either use the ammo that our Army uses or that the invading Army uses.

I will play: 357mag Marlin 1894 and 357mag GP100

If I could only have two guns from the listed pairs. It would cover my needs. With the available loads it would cover my whitetail hunting, Wilderness hiking, and self defense.

Of course I would prefer my current favorite pair.
7mm rem mag Weatherby Ultra Lightweight and XDM compact 45.

I'm having a hard time with this one.
I'm imagining a cross country road trip or something like a month-long RV camping adventure.
I'm ankle deep in 357s and 38s around here. That will probably going to be my choice.158gr factory JSP will carry you through a rough spot.

I really like ccw/rifle for extended road trips.

For a trail/hunting/hiking duo having the same caliber is perfect. Mine happens to be a Marlin 1894 and Ruger Vaquero both in 44 Mag. Of the choices you have I like the 357 combo. For a self defense duo the AR15 and the HK 9mm would be my choice.

Of course the 357mag ... the ONLY caliber that creates more power with longer barrels = .223 in simialr lenghts
+ ONE ammo for both & of course the Ruger trigger superior to even the S&W "Performance Center" models
That's my opinion and sticking to it
Too bad the 45s don't do as well in longer barrels like 357

…*snip*…

In that case….

I will pick a bag of rocks and a hammer.

I can scare the bears away with the rocks and the hammer can be used for a person with bad intentions if they get too close-AND I can use it for side-work while traveling.

Lol
