Intending to be reloading .38 S & W, and, .38 S & W Special in FFF Black Powder, to replicate original Fatory Loadings.

What Primers in your experience, would be a good choice for this?

Funny, I was rummmaging through old boxes of stuff the other day, found four 100 count Wood-Paper Boxes of Winchester sm-pistol Primers, which say, "For Smokeless Powders"

Obviously not the right kind!

Lol...

Yes, they are the right kind.

Any SM Pistol primer, of any brand, will work perfectly with BP.

It is very easy to light off compared to smokeless powder.

For 45-60 I used large rifle magnum primers but I have read that it does not really matter and that some of the better groups with one write up were had with standard large rifle primers.

Do they generally reccomend magnum or standard primers with bp/pyrodex/etc.?
Any standard primer for Black Powder.

I understand Pyrodex is harder to ignite, and might benefit from a Magnum primer, but I don't know.
