Which Ruger?

I'm going to be purchasing my first semi-auto on the 27th of this month and wanted to discuss a few things first with you guys.

I have the option of a Ruger P-94 which as you know is a metal framed 9mm.

Or I could go with a Ruger P-97 which again as you know, is a polimer framed .45

I like the idea of the larger caliber for more stopping power in the event of a situation, however I am a bit sceptical about the durablity of a frame that is esentially plastic.

Are my concerns valid or am I being too worrysome? I am being told that the metal framed .45 is no longer made by Ruger so that is not an option.

i have both a p944-t and a p97dc. you can't go wrong with either. my preference is the 97, though, by a long shot. great trigger, very accurate and "stoutly" built. mcole

I have the Ruger P-95. Excellent handgun for self defense.

Ruger still makes the P-90 which is an alloy frame 45 and is supossedly more accurate than the P-97. Go to Ruger's website for a complete listing of their pistols and suggested retail prices. Most places that I know sell for less. Why are you limited to only 2 pistols when Ruger makes many more? Is the seller trying to pull one over on you?

There is nothing wrong with the polymer frame that Ruger uses!! I have a P95 with several thousand rounds through it and a P97 that has fired 450 rounds both are structurally sound!!

Both would make a good, sound choice for a first handgun!!

Even if the seller is trying to "pull a fast one" as Ron seems to suggest, either one is going to be fine. 9mm ammo is going to be less expensive to buy, thus, you will shoot more!! Since you live in LA, concealed carry is out of the question, unless you are very well connected. (I assume you are not) So, said handgun will be for home defense or range use. I would go with cheaper practice ammo and get the P94.

I'm rather fond of the P90. Shooting it makes me want a P89 to keep it company.

I had a P-95 and I liked it alot more than the Ruger P-89 that I had. The P-97 is similar to the P-95 so I would vote for that or maybe the P-95 if you want to be able to shoot it once in a while.

My dad has a P-90 that he's owned for 10 yrs., and he's still waiting for his FIRST malfunction. I doubt that Ruger will ever quit making this one...

I own a P-95 that is as accurate as my 1911 IPSC gun & is a fun package to shoot.

My recommendation---buy one of each...

My father also has a P-90 and it's a great gun. It's big and heavy though!

I have the KP94, KP95 and KP97, all stainless, and have owned a P90.

My KP97 is more accurate than the P90 and has a better feeling grip to me, so I sold the P90.

The P94 and P95 are both excellent, but my preference is for the P95... the polymer frame will outlast you, given reasonable care, so its a pick 'em.

BTW, Ruger has a $40 rebate going right now that helps offset the cost of the P94 over the P95 (P94 is about $65 higher at dealers cost) if the alloy frame is your preference.

The P-97D has a better, at least for me, grip. The junction of the trigger guard and grip handle feels better to me than the aluminum frame. Try both guns in the hand and you may end up with the synthetic frame.

I have had a P95 (9mm) for several years--new, it came with 2 ,15 round magazines. It has fired nearly every off brand of cheap 9mm ammo available and has yet to malfunction. The best one was a batch of Russian 9mm with very hard primers--a SIG and an HK could not get it to fire--load it in the Ruger and it fired without a hitch.

The lesson here is that the P series pistols will last a very long time and shoot as well or better than several other pistols I've shot. They are also +P rated.
