Which Sig for Carry

The 229, only I'd get .357 instead of .40. I would look at the 239 though. For CCW it's smaller and a little lighter. The 239 will be my next Sig.

I should clarify that my choices are limited to those three. I have a line on some lightly used 98%+ Sigs for $540 shipped. Those are the options. I already own a Bersa Thunder .380 CC for those times when I need something I can pocket. I can fanny-pack or OWB with an untucked shirt to hide a larger gun. I'm not a small guy, which helps.

Unfortunately, this might not happen right now. My wife decided she needed to get her permit and a carry piece and she picked out a Taurus 85 Ultra-Lite .38 Special J-Frame snubby yesterday afternoon. I may have to wait a bit to refill the gun fund. I'm not complaining though. That's a good problem to have.

Go with the 229

It is a great gun and packs well. Mine came form the factory with night sights and a awesome trigger.

From your list, my choice would be the 229. Though I would also suggest you look at the 239 if something a bit smaller seems suitable for your needs/wants.

P229
Later you can get teh .357 SIG barrel and have another caliber option.

Also think of it this way, if the P229 in .40 then .357 sig is good enough for the U.S. Air Marshall service..... good enough for me!

Of those guns P229 is the only one I would even consider carrying. If you put a P220 Compact or even thee P220 Carry on the list that would be my choice.

Is the SAS all it's cracked up to be? I'm looking at a 220 Carry SAS. The dehorning isn't all hype, is it? (You have 2, so you must like it, huh?)

I am torn between having wanted a .45 for a long time and wanting something reasonable to carry. I'm leaning toward getting the 229 now and getting a 220 later. We shall see. It remains to be determined if I can even do this now. I'll know soon, but the wait is killing me.

Of the three, I would choose the P229 with the option of installing a .357 SIG barrel. The P220 would "print" more than a P229.

Now...I have a P245 with extra P220 mags and X-Grip adapters for spare mags. Though I am wedded to the .45 ACP, I recently purchased a P239 in .357 SIG. Wow, that's a terrific gun and caliber. The P239 handles very well and its cartridge shoots flatter than anything else I have in a pistol. The accuracy is amazing.

I own both the 229 and 220 and while I love the 220 the 229 gets carried more. In the warmer months I almost always have the 239 just because it is much easier to conceal.

Years ago when they first changed the mag release they used the "A" to designate American. Some still use it today much to my confusion :)

If you are looking for ease of carry, from those three choices, the P229 would be the easiest to conceal. The P220 has a thinner grip due to the single stack mags, but is a larger frame. Tough choice - I'd go with both :p :D

Ala Dan voted for the 220A in .45 ACP. I'm schocked, schocked I tell YOU!!!

I was surprised as well!

I prided myself on being a S&W man -- owning more S&W autoloaders than all of my other handguns combined. The Sig SAS with their dehorning and double-action only (DAK) trigger caused me to switch to carrying them over my S&W autoloaders. That says a lot because I've been carrying S&W autoloaders for nearly a quarter of a century.

P220 carried properly is concealable. The holster should have lots of forward cant for strong side/behind the hip carry.

For appendix carry, the P220 Carry is probably a better choice. If you carry more towards the center in front you can get away with it, though the NSI (nut squishing index) is a bit higher on the regular P220.
