Thanks, my Ar 15 is only for home defense so right now i am leaning toward the aim point.

Cool. Then definitely go for the Aimpoint. That way the gun can be on and ready to go at all times.

Later on, if you decide you want to try some distance shooting or 3 Gun competition, get another AR with an ACOG on it.

Yes. It's about 2.5" away right now, empty chamber and a 30 round magazine of 123gr V-Max.

Why would I rely on a pistol when I can have a rifle ready?

BSW
To each his own, I would rather have a handgun or shotgun for inside the house, if that is what you want, fine...

EOtech all the way. All this stuff about batt life is for the birds buy a big thing of double a's throw it in your shooting pack and good to go. I have had mine now for 4 years only had to change the batt once. Never had it fail on me.

If you throw your rifle up in a hurry and dont get a proper seat its still always on target. Once you learn to keep both eyes open you can engage MANY targets very fast.

If your really wanting to reach out and touch a target, just set up your iron sights for 500 or so. That way you just gotta flip them up and your set. Cant really use iron sights with aimpoints, or at least not near as well.

I know this is kinda taboo here, but why the hell would you be using a rifle for home defense??? Get a good ol scatter gun with some bird shot. Trust me a 20 gauge with bird shot to a bad guys leg takes the fight right outa him.
I always keep my rifle loaded and ready, my 12 Ga under the couch, fal under the bed, and my .45 acp with me always. just trying to find a good sight for my Ar-15 since I'm getting sick of the iron sights.

I went Aimpoint comp4....takes standard AA batteries. I don't want to halve to hunt for batteries.

Battery life is for the birds? Sure, until you really need your rifle only to find your optic useless due battery drain and your big thing of doubles As are nowhere nearby. Thats assuming you would even have time to replace the batteries if they were. No thanks.

How is an Aimpoint less useful with irons compared to an EOTech? This I gotta hear.

If I need my ar15 then im screwed anyways its locked up in the safe. Keep a cheep 20 and .45 for home defense. I could very well be wrong on the aimpoint iron sights accessibly. Every model I have played with (which is only 2 different kinds) just seemed to be in the way of iron sights, but every EOtech I have used has a very open and clear ability to use iron sights. I don't know if you could hear that with your text to talk app, but hopefully you could read it.

Is there anyway you can find someone local to you that you can try each optic. I've tried the Aimpoint Micro, great product BTW, however "with MY eyes", I couldn't hit a playing card off hand at 25yds. Put that same card at 50yds and give me my XPS EO-tech and I'll drill it all day off hand. Everyone's eyes are different, best regards, Bob.:)

I looked at aim point's offerings first and decided to go with the eotech. I like the precise yet fast to acquire reticle and the wide open style of the optic. I'm not worried about the batteries, I've got plenty of AA batteries and no desire to leave my red dot running 24/7.

Do you have severe astigmatism?

Yes I have severe astigmatism that I didn't find out about until I got older and stated looking for something besides irons. I believe B. Roberts once had a "sticky" about the speed difference between "irons", ACOGs" and EO-tech. It would be intersting to see him do it again with the Aimpoint Micro in the mix. Bob

Between the two I would choose the Aimpoint for superior battery life & they seem to stand up to real abuse better than the EoTech optics.
+1
My Aimpoint is undergoing a battery life test. Been on since March.

Both are great, but Eotech is probably just easier to use for your purposes. Use quality Lithium or NiMh batteries and you should be fine.

I would vote Aimpoint if it wasn't for HD.

I have never seen astigmatic issues with aimpoints that dont go away when they focus on the target not the dot.

it magically, fixes.

Care to amplify that comment? The EoTech does have some advantages, but what would make it better for a HD weapon?

So... a sight that you cant leave on all the time is BETTER for HD than one you can just pick up the gun and go?

/boggle.
