In my reading here I see a lot of people will have these items on them all the time:

Gun
Flashlight
Cell Phone
OC spray
Other

I'll throw out an attack senerio because obviously the gun would be the tool of choice. But in a developing situation what should you grab first? I'm talking about the kind of thing where it isn't clear there is even going to be a threat, but you are somewhere between yellow and oarnge. You have two hands, what's in the strong and weak hands?

I put "other" in the list to allow options that I haven't considered.

In a developing situation, I would definately have to go for the cell phone first, with the weak hand. Strong hand would hold either keys (if I'm heading for my car), the steering wheel (if I'm already driving along), or a door knob/handle if I'm going inside or out, depending if the "developing situation" is outside or inside, respectively. :)

i agree with Dion. try to remove yourself from said developing situation before anything else. if the situations continues to develop in your direction despite yout best efforts to avoid it, use whatever tool would be most effective at de-escalting the situation or eliminating the threat if it has progressed that far. in my opinion, the business end of a firearm is a very convincing tool psychologically, and if that doesn't work then the same tool is very effective physically and the transition is instant.

I was thinking along the lines of Spiff's near-mugging. In that thread different people adviced that OC, phone, and light should have been in his left hand. So I wondered how you decide. Does the situation dictate the tool, or do you default to one particular item?

i plan on carrying a cane with me, so that would be my first line of defence, if the SHTF, the cane goes in the other hand, and my right hand is ready to grab spray or pistol.
