I'm picking up another winchester 94(I have 2). Thus would be my first post-64.
I've looked at all three and they seem to be in the same condition -good to excellent, they lever fine and the bores look good. The years are 66,74, 84. Since I can't shoot before I buy what year out if those was the best quality?
The 66 has a brass colored frame. Thanks

Just picking one sight unseen I'd buy the 84 version. Quality was up and down after 63. Some are just fine, others less so and it seems quite random. In 1979 or 80 United States Repeating Arms bought the company and made an honest effort to improve quality. Some will argue that those are not true Winchesters. Maybe so, but in my experience the 1980's and 90's guns tend to be pretty well made.

Is the 84 an angle eject? I think that was the first year the AEs came out. It's personal preference, but I am not a big fan of them.

The early post-64 guns were pretty flimsy. By the mid-70's they had upgraded the lifter and a few other parts. I believe in 82 they switched to the angle eject, which changed the classic look to me. I would go for the 74 model personally. I have one from that vintage, and it outshoots my 1956 model by a large margin.
