I am planning on selling either my H&K USP 9mm or my Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm. I just really don't need both as they are similar in form and function. I think I may be a little more accurate with the M&P, but probably not significantly so.

Here are the comparisons:

M&P:
- Polymer 9mm, striker-fired, DAO (sort-of)
- Standard rail
- Night sights
- Purchased via auction w/ FFL transfer & gov't background check
- Have original box paperwork, etc.
- S&W has a pretty good warranty / service reputation

H&K:
- Polymer 9mm, hammer-fired, DA/SA
- Proprietary rail (but I have a slimline adapter)
- Standard sights
- Purchased face-to-face in a private transaction
- Have original box, paperwork, etc.
- H&K thinks I suck and they hate me ;)

Which you would keep and why?

Divide and conquer

...

Best grip, most natural feel, point to aim and..

A simple, a side by side, comparison-shoot at the range.. Winner stays, loser goes..

OMMV,

I have made a vow never to sell another gun. There are way too many sell offs that I regret.

Stick with the M&P. Just the night sights alone make it a keeper not to mention it's standard rail and the fact that you'll get more for the H&K when you sell it so you can buy another firearm of your choosing.

I wouldn't sell either, they are just different enough that if you don't need the money, it makes a lot more sense to hang on to both.

If it were one or the other, night sights are nice, but I love my USP.

I also don't sell my guns. They are already paid for so they are now free.

If you were to sell one, I'd sell the H&K. You could talk up the H&K's "european panache", an get more money for it.

I'd keep the S&W and ditch the H&K.

The M&P has the advantages of night sites, accuracy (for you), standard rail, and customer service.
It also shares mags with many a more popular cop gun if SHTF is a consideration for you.

You can also get a lot more money for that Kraut gun. The rail adapter will help you sell it.

Everything else even, I would get rid of the HK. It would free up more dollars for your next purchase and lets face it, they really are not that great.

Which you would keep and why?
I'd sell both, and get a G19 RTF2. Why? Because I don't care for the M&P in any caliber, or the USP fullsize in 9. And, for me personally, Glock has made the "perfect" pistol in the G19 RTF2.

Lot of great points. Thanks. I'm almost certainly going to sell one of them. It's not a need for money, just a need to thin the herd. It's really out of hand.

I'll decide something after I finish selling off some others that I already have up for auction.

Regards.

Of all the replies so far Lonestar's advice is the best. Everyone is different, a pistol that fits your hand and shoots great for you may not for someone else. Take'em to the range then decide.

Which one do you shoot better? Which one do you like to shoot more? Which one carries more easily? Which one are you more drawn to/prouder to own?

I would keep the Smith and Wesson, just for the reason that you are more accurate with it. I have just purchased a Smith and Wesson M&P after firing one that belongs to a friend.
