White River Energetics Primers

Don’t hold your breath:)

As @Jim Watson will surely tell you, on the BENOS forum there is ongoing conversation about these primers including purported direct conversations with White River. Check it out.

Part of that conversation includes this statement from an email “2024 is sold out for primers other than current OEM customers and new factory customers.“ And it goes on, “We do not directly sell our primers. However, we maintain a limited supply through our distributor in South Carolina.” Again, check that forum for the full discussion. It’s interesting.

I don’t pretend to understand White River’s rollout strategy such as private conversations with some folks including on THR and recruitment of individual influencers while at the same time not intending to sell directly to the public.

I personally would very much prefer a White River representative making official public comment for all to see here on THR and other forums. I know they’re reading us:)

You people who use rationality and are level headed about your thoughts..............................are for the birds..............!!................................ :p

Gee, I didn't realize I had become an Influencer. I bet some free primers and gear is about as far as I can monetize it.
They contacted me because I took their advert of "Medium" primers as a sign of a hoax.

I figure primers are fungible. If WRE is selling everything into the OEM market and even abroad, that should free up Vista and WW for retail. Unless they cut back on production to keep prices up. They can, of course, cite deferred maintenance, not marketing.

Well there’s no such thing as a free primer:)

If there was, Congress would find a way to tax it.

I’m not sure how productive all this navel gazing and speculation is but Jim got some cool swag out of it so it must be a good thing.
Yes they would.

THR is full of navel gazing and speculation on a variety of topics including corporate takeovers, bankruptcies, manufacturing, and the like. Remington, VISTA, Expansion Industries, North Fork and others have taken their turn. Now it’s White River.

I intend no offense to anyone, but to me, on issues such as new primer supply, I want at least one someone to be a skeptic. If that someone happens to be me, so be it.

I have to admit to being a little jealous of Jim’s swag. The primers are meh but that hat! For someone like me who’s follicle challenged hats can be a big deal. :)

Remington subsumed into VISTA, now owned by a Czech.
Expansion Industries was a bust if not a scam.
White River is turning out product.
Hornady blew up.
Sig and Fiocchi said to be going into US primer production.

Who, what, where is North Fork in the primer business?

Primer Gate 2021!

Best memories EVER! will be talked about for decades

I reached out to them, once I discovered existence. Just asking about sales or availability and where. Got a yeah we don't sell to public check with your local distributor. They should know how the primer game has been. Guess I expected more of a welcome then a cold not here abrupt response. After hearing how others got plant tours and sendings. I ended up finding some. Picked up some to test. Glad someone got some gear! And primers! I have the luck of the Irish that got them in chains though. Lmao. Learn to live with it. Hopefully they are good to go and work well for all. I have some loaded have to test yet.

OK, here's my half-azzed review of the White River Energetics primers.

Got out 25 rounds of my bulk '92 LC 5.56 cases. All fired 3x, all FL sized, trimmed, primer pockets sized and gauged.

Primed the cases with White River SR primers on an RCBS Jr press. The first few were really stiff to seat, and did not want to seat flush or below with the head faces. Measured the height of 5 @ Winchester and WR primers - the WR run consistently 2.5 - 3.2 mils taller than the Win primers. Diameters were the same. The WR primers visually look to have a heavier cup - I'll do forensics on them when I de-prime the cases. I seated all primers until they were at least flush with the cases (all straight edge checked) - it took an unnerving amount of force to so this on 10 of the cases.

Loaded them up with my standard short range configuration of 23.9gr AA2230 under a 62gr Hornady FMJBT. Weighed all charges. OAL set at 2.245", uncrimped.

Had 7 Win primed cases laying around and loaded them up the same way.

Headed to the range with the 7 Win primed, hand weighed cases, 15 bulk loaded Win primed rounds, and 25 WR primed cases. Brought an H-Bar Match Target with a 9X Bausch & Lomb scope on it, 1:7" twist, 20" barrel for the test gun.

Fooled around getting set up and ran 5 rounds of bulk ammo over the Oehler 35P - didn't shoot any skyscreens out.

Results were (note - this was for chronographing, not accuracy, but the results correlate pretty well.

Target 1 - Sighters; Target 2 - the 7 rounds of hand weighed, and 10 rounds of final as a check with a warm gun; Target 3 - 5 rounds warm up with WR primers; Targets 4 & 5 - 10 rounds each of WR primed.

I'm not impressed. They go bang, didn't slam fire (why the 1st 2 sets were 5 round magazines only), and didn't show any distress on the ejected cases. The chrono data shows a pretty significant velocity spread - well above my bulk XL650 loaded rounds. The seating issue on the primers would make them hard to load bulk ammo with. The price doesn't justify the performance.

If anyone locally wants a handful of these to try out and see what their results are, let me know.

No way! unless you want a Primer Vending Machine mandatory at all Airports!!!
Reminds me of the "Lee Corey" (G. Harry Stein) SF 'Manna'. Highly independent country has blister packed pistols for sale to passengers coming in from repressive regimes.

The seating issue on the primers would make them hard to load bulk ammo with.

Loading bulk 9mm on a D550, I can feel the seating vary in mixed cases. Some takes a hard push, but so do WW in some of that junk brass, although I think more with WRE SP. I have some trial lot bullets coming in, I might get a chronograph session up to compare.
