Wither the Armson OEG?

I've just aquired a NIB original, made in South Africa, Armson OEG. I have no idea when these were first marketed but there's no UPC code on the box so that gives you some idea.

I recall back in the 80's the OEG was *THE* hot set up for the high-speed, low-drag ninja crowd.

I've never even seen one until now and I can see exactly how it's supposed to work- so why did they fall out of vogue? I don't plan on mounting it on anything; it's more of a curiosity piece and it didn't cost me anything so I guess I'll just keep it on the box in the safe along with all the other odd bits and pieces.
 
I have one. I never was able to train myself to use it correctly. For it to work correctly you have to keep both eyes open, snap the sighted weapon up to a consistent position, and take your shot as soon as you see the tritium dot on the target. If you concentrate for a better sight picture, the dot will walk all over the place and you will not get good hits.

I had one back in the 80's; paid $99. for it as a closeout liquidation from a regional sporting goods store that was clsoing the location. I put it on my .30 Blackhawk and liked it well enough, but it was a bear to sight in accurately. Lost it several years ago in a fire at my brother's house; it was stored there with some other items when the house burned. At least it was not on the Blackhawk at the time. Never have seen another one since then to my recollection. Mine was different from the type shown in the photo on that webpage. Mine had a black krinkle finished tube with an opaque yellowish half-dome on the downrange end; tiny little yellow dot visible in a black field when you looked through it. Fairly fast if you had it on a longarm, took a little fumbling on a handgun, though.

I have seen several like the webpage at gunshows, but they were no better priced than on the webpage.
