Who has their guns insured?

The NRA policy requires any individual gun with a value of more than $1500 to be listed individually. Does not require serial number but requires make/model and detailed description.

Any firearm valued at more than $20,000 has to have an appraisal.

My problem with them, and why they are cheaper than the NRA, is that you can't shoot your guns under their insurance.

You have a link to a policy or something, I'd like to read that, that's interesting.

Well. I specifically read this before but I can't find it on their site now. I sent them an email.

Yeah let us know if you run across something. I have a few guns I wouldn't mind putting on a non-firing policy if the rate is a lot cheaper.
Thanks

Home owners covers up to $5,000 and NRA covers up to $1,000 I think .. Thats what I have for now..

My firearms policy rider covers just my most expensive items, total of $34,470 and costs me $516 per year through USAA. They needed a full description along with serial numbers, but if they're lost/damaged/stolen I get compensation ASAP.

As far as I can remember, anything over $10k needed appraisal, but they were more than fair.

Also, this covers loss, theft, or damage anywhere in the world, and any when, as long as the policy is in effect.

My problem with them, and why they are cheaper than the NRA, is that you can't shoot your guns under their insurance. It's only for collections that don't get used.

Lockton, the people that do the NRA insurance, have a similar policy that is much cheaper than their ArmsCare Plus but has the same restrictions.

That doesn't appear to be true. Per their exclusion:

"Covered property does not include:
(2) Guns that are primarily used, fired, or discharged for sports, hobby, self protection or similar purposes."

The word "primarily" leaves some wiggle room. Most of my guns are shot only occasionally - my guess is that's true of most people who have a 'collection' of guns. I'd argue it does mean that you can shoot them occasionally. The ones you compete with or carry? Yes, they'd need other coverage.

Does anybody know if the NRA ArmsCare policy has any stipulations, specifically regarding how you secure and/or store your firearms? I couldn't find anything in the application process on the website.

I do not know, but I'd sure store anything valuable in a safe (not an RSC, a real safe)

I have mine covered for $1000 under my NRA membership and 2 or 3 thou under renters. I never have more than 2-3 out at a time and the rest stay locked up in a basic RSC that is bolted down. The RSC is for peace of mind against smash and grab and the insurance is just nice icing on the cake in case anything else happens.

You boys might want to check Sportsman's Ins. Agency, Inc. They are appro. $12.50 per $1000 ($1.25 / $100). They used to require Safari Club membership, but I don't think so any more. They do require serial #'s (how could a company not, realistically), insure at replacement value, basically anywhere in the world, including travel. Also, cover scopes, etc. You can make additions/deletions at any time with a phone call.
