Jerry Miculek's grip looks to be about the best style for maxing trigger reach on a N frame. Has anyone used it?

Will be buying a 327 snubbie for CCW very soon and thinking about this type of grip. Might have bottom of grip trimed a bit, flush or close to bottom of grip frame.

My PC625 came with Miculek grips on it. They are slightly slimmer than Hogue which may help your hand positioning. I didn't care for them and sold them after one range session.

Cutting down the bottom would be a bad idea. They are based on the Hogue grip, and use the same bottom attachment.

A better choice for concealed carry might be the Boot Grip from www.ahrendsgripsusa.com or his regular Round Butt Smooth grip. Similar to what came on my 325.

Good Luck...

Yup...had 'em on my 625 JM. Took 'em off in favor of Hogue rubber monogrips. I couldn't take the battering to my hand with full loads. :p

A set came on my 625, but I've got LARGE hands, and the revolver forever felt like it was "squirming" around on me, so I replaced them with a set of Pachmayrs. (Plus, I use a weak-hand reload anyway, so I don't need to grip-release-grip all the time).

Before changing the grips on your revolver, you should always ask:

WWJD (that's "What would Jerry do"?) ;)

I have Jerry's grips on my 627 & 625, and use them when I shoot ICORE. A scant couple of weeks ago I managed to plug 4 ballons at 100 yards (I think it was 6 shots) using my 627 w/ Jerry's grips. I shoot ICORE with one of 2 loads; both from the Hornady reloading manual, either the maximum .357 magnum load for 125 grain or the max for 158 and I have no problems controlling the gun for about 100-150 rounds.

Anyone know what Jerry uses for CCW? I'm guessing a wheelgun but wondering if he uses a n frame?

I have the 625JM and love the grips, I must have the right sized hands. I shoot IDPA rules at my local club and they work well and including practice I shoot quite a few rounds with no problems. Our club is not sanctioned so no one checks for power levels but I cronograph mine and they do make "major." Jim.

Well since you mentioned Miculek grips and '27 in the same sentence I'll show you mine.

These are fine grips for an N frame gun but they are going to be a bit too large for a concealable version of the revolver, trimming them down isn't a viable option because if too much material is removed they will not stay in place on the grip frame and these grips are too expensive to risk on "modifications".
Since a cop friend of mine carries a 327 while working as a detective I will recommend what he has on his gun.
Eagle grips makes a boot type grip that is concealable and still allows the shooter plenty of control and believe me you will need all the concentration and control you can muster if you decide to shoot full power .357s in one of these little scandium hand grenades.
I don't have an exact picture of the Eagle grips but they are called Secret Service Boot grips I believe and they are very similar to the Pachmayer Boot grips I have on my Model 17.

You should be able to find a set that meets your needs here,

Eagle can make them to fit right hand, left hand, or ambidextrious and in a variety of materials.HTH

My 625JM came with the JM grip. The original owner of my JM PC627 V-Comp subbed rubber Hogue's for the original JM's it had, so I am looking for a replacement grip... they are just a bit pricey (If any of you folks with a 625JM still have an original grip to get rid of, let me know!).

My favorite 'carry' grip for my 629MG was the Ahrends rounded non-fg cocobolo, a la the 329PD's, I believe, which I picked up at a gun show for $10. Great with Specials and Russians - okay with my 300gr LSWC 875 fps Magnums - downright memorable with UMC 180gr SJHP Magnums - and not in a good way! They were a 'fast grab' - and produced no fidgeting for position, but didn't allow proper finger placement/retention for real target work. The 625JM came with Miculek's grip - an improved version of the aforementioned grips. They are, indeed, a fast grab - and decent for all but long distance target work. They have a home on my 625JM... and they actually help the PC 627.

I like the feel of wood stocks - and the Miculek grips feel 'right' to my medium plus sized hands. I have developed CTS, and really big thumpers aren't the fun they once were (My .454 SRH has been gone for two years now...). With this in mind, my 230gr ball ammo, at 800 fps, and my .45 AR loads up to 255gr LSWC at <900 fps are fine with the JM stock on my 625, and my wimpy .357 Magnum loads of 158gr FP's at 900 fps from the PC 627 are great with that grip, too, although I think the 625JM is tired of sharing. The usual stock on my 627 is an Ahrends cocobolo square-conversion finger-grooved variant, which helps with dedicated target, ie, plinking, work. For a fast grab, whether protection or competition, those Miculek stocks are better.

For real recoil, ie, my 4" & 6" 629, I like the Hogue made-for-S&W .460/.500 Magnum grips, which both of my 629's sport. My .45 Colts, including two 625MG's and a Redhawk, sport wood... but they are used at normal SAAMI levels. Oddly, the JM grip feels a bit weird on the 625MG - but I am accustomed to the squared f-g Ahrends cocobolo's there.

I have a 625 JM and I have just ordered a set of Retro Targets from Ahrends in the Round to Square configuration in Cocobolo. I"m hoping they will give me more control.

I don't wear this gun concealed.:)
