Andrew-
You're taking this way too personal. Please re-read my comments about the match and the staff. With one exception (tactical cover), they're all quite positive. The one exception was, I hope, constructive rather than accusatory. It takes no more time to run 175 shooters thru a course of fire that penalizes lack of cover.

Zak-
I don't think we disagree either...we're both saying "different strokes for different folks". However, my position is a bit different than yours....I gave my name to this match. My name is my reputation. In future, that will never happen again.

As to the competition gear finding it's way into the real world, can you name 3 significant improvements in real world gear that were developed from competition? ;)

Rich,

I understand your position is much different than mine, with regard to this match, and I respect that.

I guess my main point is that gear should be judged based on its utility (including reliability and durability) not just that it looks different and costs more. If it works well and survives the match, maybe it's worth considering. (I agree about those Choate shotgun shell carriers, BTW.)

3 improvements? I'm not sure if I can off the top of my head, but I'll try to dig some concrete examples up this weekend. I'm pretty sure the dual-optic (high power, and reflex) setup showed up in IPSC first (no cite). Also, I think it's likely that ballistics data from High Power (223 and 308) filtered in the "tactical" direction: now you've got Black Hills delivering lots of the over 75gr 5.56mm ammo to the military. Then you can look at the modern 1911 incarnations used by various "tactical" people; they have big sights and all the goodies found on competition pistols.
