Who knows their S&W Autoloaders?

I'm looking for a new holster for my 4013TSW... yet it is the model w/o the frame rail... It fits the Fobus holster fine which says 4013 (not for 4013TSW).

Thus I want to know... as long as mine has no frame rail is it the same externally to the 4013, thus allowing all 4013 holsters to be used????

Thanks alot...

Also, any suggestions regarding holsters you guys like that might work well for this pistol would be appreciated... I'll entertain leather or kydex.... lookin for something low-profile with an FBI cant good for IDPA and everyday use. I'm tired of the Fobus and flimsy suede Mike's IWB.

Thanks in advance.

My current 4013TSW does not have a frame rail either. It looks exactly the same as the 4013 I used to have, but since I no longer have it I can't be sure. If there is any difference it might be in the trigger guard shape.

Can't help you on the holster, I never found one I liked for this pistol so when I caried it I did Mexican carry. Galco makes excellent IWBs but I don't know if they make for your pistol.

I'm looking at Galco actually as my #1 choice... and they have a decent selection for the 4013... thus my quandry.

There are actually 2 completely different 4013s:

4013 & 4013 TSW. OK, you knew that. But did you know they were different frame sizes? This is what I have been told and what I know:

What I have been told: The 4013 is out of production and used a frame size derived from the 4516 series and used a single column mag. Nice gun. Saw one in a local shop a few weeks back. One thing I noticed was the single column mag. Might get it. It is definitely different from the TSW model. Now there is the possibility that S&W toyed the us a bit and used 2 different frames for the same model number to try and see what worked. Initially, S&W engineer believed that the aluminum 6900 series frames couldn't handle the stress of the .40.

As I understand it, the 4013TSW was an outgrowth of the so-called "shorty forty' project.

I have a 4013TSW pre-rail. So this is what I know. This gun is based on the 6906 frame and used a staggered or double column magazine (4006 mags will work in this gun). The frame is a bit beefier than a regular 6900. I don't know which of the frames is used on the current 4013TSW, but it is probably the double column frame. So the holsters will not be interchangeable between the two models. I have 6906 holsters that fit my 4013TSW. It slid right into my Galco paddle. However, a tightly fitted custom holster that I have needed some breaking in.

Oh, and the overall length and height of these two guns are virtually the same.

THanks SouthPaw... so just a lil clarification... since I have a pre-rail 4013TSW same as you I should shop for holsters for the 6906???

Also, which holsters do you have and how do you like them?
Thanks alot!

Yes, BUT, I would bring the gun with me and make sure it works. Fit will vary from maker to maker. My Galco paddle holster works just fine. This holster was purchased form my 6906, so I don't carry my 4013 TSW in it (I'm afraid it will cause a loose fit with the 6906 eventually). Although the custom holster I have is about the tightest I 've seen, there may very well be makers that have tighter fits. Mitch Rosen is one that I can think of that is known for tight fits.

If you contact one of the many fine custom holster makers like Lou Alessi, Josh Bulman, Mitch Rosen, etc., etc., they can make you exactly what you need. You just need to specify it's a 4013TSW, pre-rail.
