I'm wanting to get into a 1911, but honestly I can't afford the price of 45 ACP right now. Does anyone besides RIA makes an affordable plain Jane 1911?

The STI Spartan is relatively affordable. I think Taurus might make a 1911 in 9mm now to. The Spartan is 600 something not sure about the Taurus (if it even exists).

Colt is higher but since you'll want/get one anyhow, go ahead now thereby saving in the future! At least my wife operates on that theory in her dealings.I use it when I want a new gun.

No.

You will have to step up in price to a Springfield Loaded - A Para 18-9 or an older Colt or Springfield 9mm in 1911. I looked for 3 years before I found an older (94) Springfield in 9mm for a base price. Just as well spend the money for a "bells & whistle" model which you can find from several Mfgr's.

Rock Island makes 1911s in .45, 9mm, 38super. I have 2 1911s chambered in 9mm, they are absolute lasers. Other good cheap brands, under $600 are Remington, High Standard, Auto-Ordnance, Taurus, etc. I would reccomend getting a 1911 in .45ACP for your first, just my thinking. http://centerfiresystems.com is a good place to order, (or if you live near Lexington KY) go to get a Rock Island 1911.

metro usa arms from the phillipines, i dont think they have a website, but man one heck of a tactical gun, I've personally shot one of them and its DOB accurate!!

STI Spartan 9mm. STI's are very good quality guns for the price. If you had a little more to spend you could get an STI Trojan in 9mm. IMO, the STI Trojan is one of the best values in the gun world for price vs quality.

I also had a Springfield loaded 9mm that was a good gun as well. Stay away from Para, they have horrible QC and Customer Service.

Now I fell in love with 1911s and the only ones I own are custom made:

I have not shot the STI Spartan but have used both the STI Trojan and Dan Wesson PM-9. I sold my Springfield 9mm Target since the best groups were in the 4 to 6 inch at 50 ft. In contrast the DW PM-9 produices one inch groups at that distance.

RIA Tactical ~$425
STI Spartan ~$625
Springfield Loaded ~$850
STI Trojan or Ranger II - $999
DW PM-9 ~$1049
DW Guardian $1400

+1 for the Metro Arms. Great gun.

At the range had a guy looking at mine and asked if I had polished the rails??!! The slide was so smooth!! I told him no that the gun only had a 3 boxes of ammo ran through it and some Breakfree CLP during cleaning. He said he was gonna buy one.

Even my 92 pound wife likes the 1911 although she flinches when she shoots it. Think I will prolly get her a 1911 in a 9mm or .38
