Anyone here been shot before? Please share your experiences and detail the event. What did it feel like? What caliber/firearm? Do you have lasting effects or did you make a full recovery? Was it accidental or intentional? Etc?

I am sure many of us would love hear some of the war stories you all might have....

I wouldn't expect a lot of responses to this query. To a lot of people, the question you're posing is a very personal and serious one.

Wow, really? I guess I wouldn't know. I would have thought people might like to tell their story...

Well, if the mods feel like closing this thread, by all means....

Shot in the back with a .25 auto, which jammed after the first shot (trying to walk away from a fight with a drunken idiot). He should used a bigger gun. Last I knew they said he might walk afain, someday...but without plastic surgery, his face will never be quite the same.

I have a strange reaction to pain---I don't feel it, except that is pis$$es me off. Never felt the wound, even when they were removing the bullet (which stopped at my right shoulder blade).

I've been shot with rocksalt, but that really doesn't count in my eyes, so I voted "NO".

(I was in someones back yard trying to get a ball when it happened.)

I was shot in the knee with a .22 once.

I still won that fight. This was as a youth, long before I could pack my own heat.

Not quite

I picked up a .308 ricochet once. Tore through my jeans right above the left side pocket and chewed up my hip a little. It left a huge bruise that lasted a couple weeks.

I got hit in the arm with a BB gun when I was a kid, also had a few pellets of game load hit me in the leg. (See related thread in shotgun forum!)

Yeesh. Bad situation all around.

This has already been done.

As someone said, don't expect a ton of responses. Getting shot isn't cool - there aren't many (at least not here) who want to tell 'war stories' about something that may well have changed their lives forever.

I assumed you meant centerfire so I voted no. I was, on multiple occasions however, shot with a Daisy Red Rider when I was a kid. My older brothers used to load them with uncooked rice, and spagheti noodles and torment me.

Same here. I voted no, but I've been hit with rocksalt. It hurt like a mother. I caught some while dirt bike riding when I was a teenager, I must have gotten too close to a jackson white's pot field. If anyonw is wondering what a Jackson White is (it in not a person, but type of people who are, shal we say... special), I've included a link to a definition.

I was shot in the foot with a 22lr. A buddy and me were out hunting raccoons one night, and he shot me in the top of my foot from 30 feet away. It was most definitely an accident. The pain was a burning sensation, and it bled pretty bad. Bullet ended up lodged in the bone, and was removed by a doctor. No lasting effects, except for the scar. I could definitely go throught he rest of my life without experiencing it again.

I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and got hit with an ND from a "friend-of-a-friend". A .223 hit me on the edge of the hip and passed clean through without hitting bone. I was 21 and we were at a sand pit in VT with a bunch of other guys our age.

Gee, and I thought that the .223 was supposed to go in, tumble around, scramble my insides, and come out the top of my head.

Seriously, it burned more than anything else. I grabbed the gun away from him (an AR) and smashed it to bits on a big rock. I did that to keep from smashing him to bits on a big rock. His excuse? "It's supposed to empty! It just went off!"

Got 'zinged' by a .22 going by me while out hunting small game years ago. It burned like heck, but no lasting damage since it was only a graze on my shoulder. I never found the moron who fired the shot, i guess he had to have heard me 'blessing' him rather profoundly and probably figured i was likely to live, so he must've high-tailed it in the opposite direction.

This makes me look bad but with almost 10 yrs of military service (and a few times in combat) the only real penetration shot was when I shot myself in the foot as a kid with my grandmother's .22 revolver. I also received a grazing blow from a .22 rifle on the back left side of my head from my younger sister trying to figure out how to release a safety when I was 12..luckily it just grazed me so does not count as being shot.

Probably would be best to just use the search on this one.... This thread comes up about every six months and usually drags out a fair rate of response.
