Apparently it ticks off a lot of Fudds too.

FPNI (CoRoMo)

Because they like it and they want to spend their money on it.

Another reason- Buy military style rifle with an 11.5" bbl with a fake can perma attached to 16"OAL. SBR said rifle. Remove fake can yourself and now have SBR of said military copy without having to cut, recrown, remove 16" bbl from receiver.. Many people do this and theres nothing mall ninja about it.

Sometimes it is for looks but in the case of some carbines, it is actually to make minimum legal length and they are welded on.

These are POS novelty guns.
Not necessarily. There are currently some nice little Beretta .22's being sold with a permanently attached fake can on them. Dont know why, but it is.

Ive seen a number of AR "XM177" copies with the 11" barrels and a pinned and welded fake can/flash suppressor attached.

Some people just want something that looks the part, without having to jump through the hoops for the real thing, for what ever reason.

Ive had a couple like that. Currently have a Saiga with a 14" barrel and a pinned and welded brake for that very reason.

The MAC SMG's came threaded, and people often used the fake suppressors or muzzle extensions for something to hold onto. Not really necessary, but people do shoot differently sometimes, and they served a purpose.

For the same reason people buy camo guns.
Ive been painting my hunting/working guns since the 60's, for the simple reason, it works very well, especially with birds, and is a great protector of the guns finish.

Not everything is "tacticool", some of us actually use our stuff.

(shrug) Coolness is in the eye of the beholder. I own/shoot suppressors, but don't do so so much as what they look like, but how they function.

I remember those semi-auto Macs back in the day and the extended barrels or fake suppressors sort of made sense because it was something to hang on to. A strap (like the original happy-switch equipped Mac) or a vertical foregrip would make them into an AOW and most figured it wasn't worth the bother.

I had a GSG-5, the first thing I did was take to stupid looking fake supressor off...

Since it looked worse, I put it back on.

Same reason people put breacher chokes on their shotguns. You know, incase you have to breach your own doors when someone breaks into your house.

it's all in good fun.
