Recently I was talking to a bud about S&W M41 pistols. I have two in 22 LR. Thank goodness parts and magazines are plentiful. Lots of older shooters have High Standards, which are out of production. I heard magazines for them are $90.00 apiece. Bud mentioned that there was a S&W M41 in 22 Short, very rare. Magazines, if they can be found, are over $200.00. This really affects the value of a firearm, once shooters know that they are logistically unsupportable. If you have a weapon with a custom, one of a kind magazine, you better buy a bunch of magazines, because once they become unavailable, the price of the magazine will become un reasonable. And then, trying to sell the weapon gets difficult unless it comes with a lot of magazines because the next buyer knows, replacements are unavailable.
Anyone remember the Bren Ten pistol? Most of those were shipped without a magazine. When the company went bust, magazine supply stopped. I wonder what the price is for a Bren Ten with magazine versus a Bren Ten without.
