This is not what we need, especially with Sen Craig fighting so hard for us...

Boise Police officer Derek Whipps was shot three times Saturday. Whipps was wearing a bullet-proof vest and his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Tibbs said the officer's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening and Whipps was in stable condition at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center Saturday afternoon.

Boise and Idaho state police said the shooting suspect is 28-year-old Juventino Torres-Vargas.

Police report the suspect entered a home at Pamona and Esquire in Boise and are attempting to negotiate. Roads close to the scene of the shooting are closed. Police tracked the suspect to the home after his car was found abandoned at Curtis and Cole roads.

Police said Torres-Vargas is wanted in connection with an armed robbery earlier Saturday. He is also wanted for aggravated battery in connection with a shooting earlier this week of his common-law wife, police said.

Juventino Torres-Vargas, 28 is described as 5-foot-10-inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

The article lacks many important details, but it appears that the officer's vest stopped the bullets - as it was supposed too do. Nothing suggests that the suspect had any kind of "armor piercing" bullets so the anti's won't be able to make much of it.

And yes, I hope this jerk gets sent away for so long you don't have to worry about him on this planet.

I'll bet he's one of those Canadians who sneak across the border now and then.

Not to get too far off topic, but Senator Craig's wife was my first grade teacher up in Coeur d' Alene.

A man suspected of shooting a Boise Police officer is in custody at the Ada County Jail, after hiding inside a Boise home for five hours.

Twenty-eight-year-old Juventino Torres-Vargas surrendered at about 5 p.m. He walked out of the house without a gun and was arrested without incident.

Lieutenant Gary Compton says Whipps is in surgery tonight. Compton says his injuries aren't life threatening. The suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot, and entered a house as the residents were leaving. The residents were able to leave the property without injury.

Sheesh! Don't think about it. The media could have a field day on the person who lambasted this poor individual coming from a poor country and who had a diffcult childhood.

I'm still wondering why the cops haven't transformed this guy into Swiss Cheese the next instant. Here, cop shootings rarely go to court as the accused usually already faces a heavenly court....

We have recently have had a string of cop involved shootings. We had once guy even try to take on a group of cops, 3 city, two county and one state. With a SKS, Well, he suffered form lead poisoning. We just recently fired our mayor and our police chief, cops are now very hesitent to shoot a guy down if they don't have too. They are getting the reputation of a "bang!, stop or I will shoot!" type of force
