I was wondering this today. I am actually not getting a Remington 700 CDL specifically because they dont have it in .308. If they did, I would be willing to dish out the extra 2-300 dollars more than the CZ 550 I'm looking at.
They may not have it in every firearm niche (especially if they are sporting 270, 30-06, 7mm, 300 win mag, etc). Production costs have made alot of companies stream-line their options available.
They carry it in specific firearm types. But I dont think the .308 is going away.. anytime ever.
Step aside from tactical issues, availabitly of surplus ammo, etc, the 308 is just a 30-06 with the potential to be run through a slightly shorter action....if you are willing to give up performance on the heavier loadings.
