Why don't we do something like this?

If I'm not mistaken, we have more than one member in "the industry". A tv spot that would reinforce the same principles the NRA's Eddie Eagle program highlights I think would be a positive step towards reducing the number of unfortunate NDs that result in injuries and/or deaths. Example: http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2009/apr/13/south-miami-commissioner-brother-naples-man-shot-a/

(yes, I know the above article is now being questioned and investigated as a first degree murder case, but for the moment, let's just use it as an example a worst case scenario ND).

I believe that a tv spot paid for and made by gun enthusiasts and/or firearms manufacturers would be a great way to both minimize the number of accidents caused by negligence, and also get the public on the same page as us as far as them understanding that us "pro-gunners" are FOR responsible usage and handling of firearms. Too many news stories have painted us as irresponsible and/or dangerous dolts. Perhaps this would be a way to combat the MSM's and politicians' attempts to further that image of us.

Just an idea. Don't flame me bro'.

most people have made up there mind on wether guns are good or bad. I believe that most people that are anti-gun do not want their child exposed to firearms at all, even though it would answer alot of the questions that a child would have. I think that sex ed is taught in school, not saying that it shouldn't be but it is taught to bring a fact a life to a student, to show them that this is what happens in life. Sooner or later everbody will encounter a firearm and should have some knowledge of how or what it is because unlike sex, if you mishandle a firearm the consequences are not as enjoyable

I'm of the opposite opinion. I think most regular people are anti-gun because it's their default position. They don't really know why they don't like guns, they just don't - sort of like someone who doesn't like a food they've never tried.

I think a spot on guns and gun owners that doesn't feature the "cold dead hands" crowd would go a long way to sway the ignorant and undecided.

The idea should be to portray gun owners as no different than non-gun owners. We need to break the stereotype that the media has stuck us with so that we're taken seriously.

It's all about marketing...

wont stop all ND's, a Marine buddy of mine was at the rifle range on post 3 days ago, guy next to him thought he put his weapon on safe but actually set it to 3 round burst. put his finger on the trigger and bang bang bang, my buddy now has 3 bullet holes in his leg

Absolutely. Take these same people and have them experience an encounter with a BG or group of BG's and then see how many change their minds.

The NRA needs to (if they are not already) do some direct marketing on the subject of personal responsibility and gun ownership and tie it in with the American Family Values that are forefathers and every single American who has given their lives for the freedoms that were have.
