Why FTF sale only

As a buyer, I prefer FTF as well. I can find a good deal on a used (or new) gun online from a dealer or private party. But once I add in shipping and the FFL transfer fee, I'm usually at the price of a new gun had I simply went to my LGS and purchased it flat out.

As a seller, I have no problems with shipping a firearm. I typically charge a flat rate. Sometimes I get an extra few bucks if the actual shipping is lower than what I charged, but other times I've had to spend more on shipping than what I charged.

A FTF sale as a buyer, I get to inspect the fire arms, or even test fire it depending on where we meet. As a seller, I know my buyer is going to have the same opportunity.

It is an advantage for me as a buyer to be able to meet the seller at Bass Pro and try out his merchandise before I buy.

I have read so many threads about defective guns (even new ones) that it affords peace of mind to both of us.

Works the same for me as a seller.

It is also nice to show the other party my CHL, take a look at his, and proceed. Exercising a freedom is never a bad thing.
Exactly! It's like an instant background check.

And if he doesn't have one?
Why are you worried about doing a background check? If you are that concerned, then use a FFL

Thats not always a benefit, if you end up with a gun thats got a "checkered" past you didn't know about.

So what? Who is going to know or find out about it or even care - as long as you didn't commit the crime

First, forgive my inorance, but what does DFW mean?

As a 6 - 8 time seller/buyer it is much easier for me to meet somebody, check his ID and (I like) a LTCF (in PA) have him her/ or me look over and possibly shoot the gun and make a cash deal. No shipping, no FFL, and no question of acceptable payment.

I have bought and sold both ways. FTF is just easier.

It DOES limit the market though....

Yep, I've never seen a case where the police were able to trace a firearm back to a crime.

Besides, if by some fluke (car stop) they found it to your possession, all you need to do is tell them it wasn't you, or I just bought this, or ollie ollie oxen free or something. Instant bypass of lawyers and judicial system.

ETA: Any seller in any market will conduct business in the manner he feels comfortable. The fact that potential buyers don't like it, well, it really doesn't matter because the buyers can go elsewhere. It's their prerogative. If the seller doesn't get the business he wants, then he'll adjust or walk away. No need for so many sellers to sweat the fact that they disagree with a seller limiting his market.

The seller sets the policy, however strange it might be to you. He doesn't want to pay the middleman. If you don't like it, don't buy. Simple.
My FTF selling policy is, although CHL is not required, it is preferred.

In Texas (DFW or anywhere else) nothing is required to complete a sale except the seller can not have reasonable belief that the buyer is a prohibited person. Lacking that belief, you're free to sell.

I have sold a couple of guns online. I post excellent pics, not camera phone pics, and fully explain anything negative about the gun. My FFL charges $10 plus shipping if I pack it up, and he ships by USPS Priority Mail. Not expensive at all. And, the best part is, THE BUYER PAYS ALL FEES. I'll gladly ship as long as the buyer understands hte cost is on his nickel. I'm not out anything.
