Why Not A Brand New SKS?

There have been reported sightings, but the new ones may not qualify for the C&R status that the surplus ones come in with.

I don't believe the cost of producing them today would come anywhere near the affordability of purchasing a used one surplus for $200-$300... I have a nearly unfired Russian I paid $300.00 for about 3 years ago and a near unfired chicom I paid $200 for recently.

We would never get the SKS in without some major changes due to the 89 ban and the domestic companies would throw a fit if that was ever removed.

i noticed that on zavasta's site too. i be more interested in thier M57/tt33

i do like the ZASTAVA LKP 66 a sporter SKS. looks nice

I don't like SKSes because they're the greatest guns EVAR!!! I like them because they're very good guns at a great price.

They're old-style guns that require a lot of hand-machining and fitting. To make one new they'd be priced similarly to a Ruger Mini-30 or an AR-15, and more than most AK patter guns

Are C&R guns exempt from the "sporting purpose" importation test? Also, the Norinco SKSs that were imported before the Chinese gun ban were not 50 years old so they were they not C&R as well?

Embargo prohibiting the export of arms out of Yugoslavia as well as a few other countries in the area which used to be part of Yugoslavia..... the whole war crimes against humanity thing..... all of the virgin parts sets and used parts sets and SKSs were captured by Bosnia, Croatia whom do not have embargos against them as they were considered the Victims of aformentioned war crimes

The Chinese were making new SKS's before Slick banned them from being imported. They used a press in barrel just like an AK, and they were still under $200, in those days, used ones, under $100. When you get an idea like: "Wow, the politicians aren't "antigun anymore", just remember, all it would take to allow new Chinese SKS's back into the country would be for a current president of US Attorney General, to change the ruling on the 922 status. The Chinese had modified their guns to meet Bush 41 import requirements, and Clinton banned them anyway. By the way, they also banned the cheap chinese ammunition too.

and they were still under $200,

Bought my first for 80 bucks new, about all it was worth too. Ammo was under a dime apeice. It rode a lota miles in a P/U tool box, always functioned but didn't shoot real straight ever. Would hit Nine inch pie plates at 100 yds at least half the time, if you're lucky. Had several, they were all about the same, Great beaters I always thought.
Had one Russian it would do 4" or better, much better shooter. Never shot a Yugo.

I was just going thru some old gun files today and found an old copy of Classic Arms flyer.

I can't find a date on it but I am thinking mid 90's. SKS's were going for $69.95! Russians were going for $84.95. I bought a Russian for $99 back then and sold it for $250 about six years later and don't really miss it. I'm too much of an accuracy freak.
