It's less than the velocity of the 100 grain loads, but it's still a powerful load meant for self defense, same as .38 Special +P is meant for self defense.
When it comes to using a light snub for defense I'm going to choose the load that I shoot well with. 85 grains of .327 has less recoil than 125 grains of .38+P.
So let's rewrite your initial claim. Your choice of a 85 grain 327 FM at 1400 fps produces less recoil at 2.25 ft lbs, (not including powder weight, in a 2.0 pound gun) than a 38 Special +P 125 grain at 945 fps (Federal doesn't have that in their catalog so I went with Remington, but Winchester has the same speeds) at 2.21 ft lbs.
Hmm. I don't think those numbers support your claim either. But you can believe whatever makes you happy.
