Recently, we have heard calls for "assault weapon" bans, from journalists who will still have their armed security to liberal politicians who let the criminals out on the streets in the first place. They say if we ban "assault weapons" it will solve the problem. The standard reply is "criminals won't obey the laws", which holds true for organized criminals. However, murderers like those in New York often do not have the means to aquire illegal firearms, despite ignoring other laws such as no firearms at work. Still, an AWB is not the answer, despite what the politicians may tell you. (In an attempt to blame others for their failure to keep you safe)

For instance, Switzerland has about the same per capita murder rate as England and Whales, although Switzerland requires that all military eligable citizens keep a machine gun in their house. Mexico has incredibly strict laws, yet that is a far more dangerous place than the U.S., and they get most of their weapons from places other than the U.S.

Gun control does not work, as many places have found out. For instance, even England, a nation isolated from all others by water, has had their crime rate, I believe even their handgun crime rate, rise after they banned handguns.

Texas, however, had it's crime rate drop far faster than the national average after it allowed CCW. (50 percent faster reduction in murder the first year, 250 percent faster reduction of assault in the second year)

"There is no need for an "assault weapon".
Not true. They are ideal for elderly people who might not be able to withstand the recoil of a shotgun, and can't aim a handgun well. They are often light and low recoil, making them good for senior citizens whether it be an AK or an m1 carbine.

Journalists and others who claim to be knowledgable about the subject will often say that Europe has strict laws, and that is why they have low violence. However, Europe has lower violence all-around, not just with firearms. America does not have a firearm problem, it has a violence problem.

I think they are just tired of treating gunshot wounds and would prefer to treat blunt force trama or stabbing wounds along with gunshots from illegally acquired firearms...
