Hello everyone,

what does it take to install a wide spur hammer on a series 80 (1991 blued Colt)? AS I understand you can't just install a series 70 hammer even with minor fitting. How could I get a wide spur hammer installed on a Colt? I could remove the series 80 components and install the conversion shim but i've heard the shims flatten out after a while and have to be replaced. If I were to install a shim what thickness would it be? Although I can only find series 70 hammers so I might have to go that option. If I just get a series 70 hammer and remove the series 80 safety feature would i need a new hammer strut? How much fitting would I need to do? What would you folks advise?

And which wide spur hammer would you guys suggest? I found this one for 20 dollars. Should I be wary of it? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Colt-1911-Semi-Auto-Pistol-Wide-Spur-Hammer-/401058282670?hash=item5d60efbcae:g:RwgAAOSwX~dWn7Bv

Thanks everybody

EDIT: just realized that Numrich is selling the hammers in the link i listed. Should I rule them out? Wide spur 1911 hammers are hard to find these days.

See if this helps. http://www.1911forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=243663

The "spacers" are available at places such as Brownells. Believe they have 3 thicknesses. You can also use small electronics size washers (may need to enlarge washer holes. never seen any spacers wear out. Don't believe you'll have a strut issue. Might consider getting a new strut and pin. You can mic your block and see which spacer will work. http://www.brownells.com/handgun-pa...-to-series-70-conversion-shims-prod13121.aspx
