Title is pretty self explanatory really. I'm really liking this all metal smith, I've a read a few threads on here about these being solid shooters. Can't wait to go the range with it......I may need a 915 now though.....

I haven't shot the 5906 but my father did get a 6906 and that has been a fantastic gun so far.
Factory or handloads, It eats all of it and has yet to malfunction. At least, Not that I can recall off.

You should really be thankful you have such a very nice wife!
Make sure to say thank you!

Congrats, they're fantastic guns. And sounds like you have a fantastic wife!

I know I'm not getting anything for fathers day, but it would be nice to at least hear "happy fathers day" from the wife. I'm not holding my breath, though......

The 3rd generation S&W autos have always been amongst my favorites. They have always had a good reputation as solid pistols and are quite accurate. One of my favorite features of these firearms are the generally very nice trigger pull for a traditional double action. The trigger reset is also very short and very crisp. The 5906 is the standard in my mind in the category of traditional double actions.

I either own, or have owned, the 5905 (very rare), 5906, 6906, 5903SSV (a regular CCW for me), 3913, 4006, 4013, 4506, 4513, 1006, and probably a couple of others I am forgetting. I am a fan.

Enjoy it.

I really like some of the single stack 9mm smiths. If they handle anything like this new "to me" 5906, I'm already loving it. And the wife is a serious keeper.

Dude, if you're not going to post a pretty pic of the wife, you at least have to post a pic of the 5906.

She's a keeper!

I love the S&W 3rd Generation pistols, but I tend to prefer the single-stack models. As such, I have a 4566 and a 3913. I once had a 1006 but I foolishly sold it. If I find another 10mm I'll sprain my elbow pulling out my wallet.

Can't post pictures with this silly iPad. Yeah both her and the pistol are very pretty. I am definitely interested in the single stack smaller 3rd Gen for a carry pistol. My wife always has her sig 229 with her, oh yeah she's the police too.

FWIW:

My 5906 w/Crimson Trace lasergrips is my nightstand, "bump in the night" gun..

Always reliable, awesomely accurate with the CT lasergrips.

Good Shootin~

Jesse

P.S. Now, next "Mothers Day" get her a 3913LS! :D

The 5906 is a wonderful gun and perfect for home protection as well as any other application you may need it for. For outdoor use, I would find it very comfortable to have as a camping gun and travel gun. The firepower is incredible, especially with a 20-round clip.

The 659 (the 5906's daddy) use the same 20-round.

There are few guns that I can put my faith in, and the 659/5906 is one of them. The guns are so handsome that they're often used in television shows and movies. The guns also are popular in the UK, where they're deactivated and sold to serfs who can't own real guns. It's pathetic, but they keep them in safes and at dinner parties and get-togethers they go get their deactivated guns, show them to their guests, oooh! and awww! over them and then lock them back up. Then, when they're called to dinner, they sit down in the dining room and use government-approved knives with rounded tips so they don't attack each other. What's really horrible is that the deactivated guns sell for as much if not more than real guns!

Anyway, you've got a great pistola and I'd love to see some photos! Some guns have fixed sights and others have adjustable sights protected by shields on both sides. Whatever model you have, it'll do the job.

Count me in with the 3rd gen fanboys. Solid as a rock and eats everything without complaining. What a great Father's Day gift.

My wife bought me a LNIB 5906 (unfired!) for Christmas. My next purchase was a 3913 for carry. Love them both. I was just at the gas station standing in line behind a WV State Trooper and I was drooling over his Melonite 4566. I have to have one.

I got 2 5906s from cdnn last year and have owned a 915. Fires anything and trustworthy and rugged. Biggest plaint is they are heavy but I don't see that as a real issue.

I love the looks of these guns, especially the square trigger guard models. I've got a few examples, mostly TSW variants. I know these would sell for good money if S&W would bring them back. Look how much Sig gets for their metal framed pistols. Anyone at Smith and Wesson management listening? As mentioned The trigger reset on these is so short you can do double taps in your sleep. :D
