this story is several months old....but I'll share it anyway....
My wife is really quite the "can do" lady and has had a few adventures in her life. Years ago, she actully worked with a team of folks smuggling Bibles into the Eastern Block countries...before Perestroika and Glastnos became common words. She once drove a van with just one other gal accross Yugoslavia (Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia) to take literature to Romania. They took a lot of "tactical" precautions back then, as getting detained at a border crossing was very serious business and getting caught with "the goods" would certainly land their tails in a commie jail cell.
But now that we're living "fat, dumb and happpy in the lap of American luxury" she's so caught up in the day to day frantic schedule of mommy duties that she often worries me. She knows that our society is filled with a lot of sickos and monsters, but has clung to the illusion that we live in a "good neighborhood" and "those kinds of things don't happen around here". So in general, she goes through life pretty oblivious to "threat levels". An example of this would be when she allowed a strange man doing contract work for the tax assessors office to come into our house when she was home alone with our daughters (we had a long heart to heart talk about this one).
Now once a month or so she goes out with her two best girlfriends for their "girls night out" and enjoys talking to adults about something other than potty training. I'm usually happy for her to have these times, as I know it's SO good for her mental health, but on a couple of occassions they've stayed out till closing time and worried me sick.
Though she's been to the range with me twice now, she won't consider carrying, as she apprecieates the responsibility, potential danger and "know what your doing" aspects of carrying a weapon and doesn't see any way she can invest the time and effort into any kind of training. But I did get her (and her mother) to start carrying a mini OC spray in her purse (though I've suspected that she often forgets that it's there.)
So I was very pleasantly surprised to hear her recount her "tactical exit plan" on her last girls night out, while leaving the pub at midnight. She got her little OC spray at the ready, and the three gals "conspired" that one would distract any would be assailant by yelling, my wife would spray the BG in the face and the third would set about wailing on him with her purse , while the yeller would switch to 911 cell phone duty and kicking.
They all went together to one vehicle, got in together and then drove to the second ladies car, then both drove to the third ladies car, and then all left together.
I had no desire to critique their plan...I was just thankfull that they were thinking "what if" and came up with a stratagy.
BTW...the other two ladies were some impressed that my gal was "armed and dangerous".
