I teach a ladies class once a week and many ladies come in looking for a CCW piece.
I try to get them hands on experience with the different trigger types that are out there and explain there features.
I usually have them try these guns:
Glock 17/19/34 (or Springfield XD)
Sig P2022 or 226 (CZ75 or Beretta 92 are good substitutes)
Springfield 9mm 1911 (or some kind of 9mm 1911)
From there we decide with trigger type works best for them and their application.
Some people want a safety lever, some want no frills or anything to remember, some people like the DA/SA concept, etc.
Once we have the trigger type sorted, we move to a smaller example of the trigger type in question.
If SAO, then we look at Springfield EMP's and Sig P238's
Strikers: Glock 42/43, 19, 26 (or XD equivalents)
DA/SA: Sig P239, CZ75 PCR/Compact, CZ Rami, etc.
I like to start with the larger framed guns to keep recoil manageable and get the basics of shooting down.
